PHB a necessity with 315's? Stock height car.
Ok well I know there's 11029382190 threads involving 315's, but I don't know if this question was answered and quite frankly I'd rather just find out this way instead of looking through a ton of threads.
My 17x9.5/11 Black ZR1's should be in this week along with my 315's. I don't really have money right now to drop on a PHB, but for now my car is at stock height. Do I absolutely have to have a PHB with 315's or can it wait? I just want to put my wheels on and be able to drive the car.
Thanks in advance.

If you are at stock height, you can probably wait. But, if you ever drop the car, you WILL need to get one. When you get your new wheels and tires on, you might want to measure and see how far off your rear end is. A lot of times they are very close but sometimes, they can be pretty far off, but you should be fine for now.

Yeah I plan on doing a PHB and LCA relocation brackets when I lower it.
Where and what exactly do you measure to see what needs to be adjusted with a PHB? Pardon my ignorance, but I always see people say "measure the rear" to see how much you need to adjust on the PHB.
Do I need to measure where the tires sit in comparison to the fenders or something?

I took a long string and and tied a heavy washer to the end of it. I taped it to the rear window (on the side) and let the weight hang over the middle of the wheel well. Then take a measurement from the string to the hub. This may not be the most accurate way, but we did it this way with the suspension loaded and adjusted it. When I had the car aligned, the technician said that the rear was right on.

Anything that keeps the rear end housing from moving around more will improve your handeling. PHB will keep it centered which gives you a more constant center of gravity. Also, it doesn't allow the rear to build momentum, and then "slap" the car one way or the other. Not that it does that much anyways, but it should tighten the car up just that much more.

I plan on picking one up I just wanted to know if I could even put the wheels on the car without one? I don't plan on driving it hard or anything hell if I even drive it at all.

make sure when you measure the rearend that it has a load on it.i like to let it set on the ground and push on the rear of the car a couple times to get it to set where it wants and then measure both sides and adjust from there.

What brand of tire are you going with?

Hi Folks
This weekend I just had my tires mounted (315/35x17 BFG DR & 17x11 rim)and I installed them on the car. A couple of key points - First the stop bumper and the chassis holding it has to be cut back. This is only a problem when you jack the car up and rear end hangs down – big problem. The other issue is the clearance problems, normal height. I had to get a BFH to move the metal – the sheet metal moved very easy but the other did not. Very little clearance and if you road race, it maybe more of a problem. In my case I could not just install the tires, I had a little work to do.

Another FYI for anyone interested. Right now I'm running Kumho 712's up front (275's). I had them from my old Camaro, so they saved me a couple bucks for now, but the are noticably heavier than my 315's. It's weird since they're smaller, but my 315's feel lighter than my 275 Kumho's and my old 295/35/18 Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals.
