Default Clueless Girl With a Ws6--and I need tires....

Hi, Just got my Ws6 a few months ago and it needs tires. I've been searching the forums, but I feel like I could get better info from one big post.

I'm guessing that if I wanted to get new rims, I should get the rims and tires together, I have the stock Ws6 rims right now (it's an '02)

Can anyone suggest what a good tire is for driving that won't wear down too fast? Budget isn't a big issue...

Also, how do you feel about black chrome on a Sunset Orange Metallic Ws6...maybe someone has pics of theirs?

Thanks a lot for any help!!!

Keep the hyper black off. I'd only put polished or chrome on there (prefrably polished since they won't peel if you curb them) michilin pilot sports are excellent tires, especially if money isn't an issue

I have BFG G Force TAs on the car. They are a pretty good tire but I feel they wear kind of fast. The longest I've had a set last is two years but by the time I swaped them out it was over due.

I wouldn't go with polished wheels for the car. If you want that look go for chrome. I have polished TT2s on the car and I hate cleaning them all the time but if I don't then they look bad.

I think the black chrome would look good on a SOM TA though

SOM_WS6,

Welcome to the board.

If you like the black chrome look.
Then go with Black Anodized Fikse Profil 5's in 18x11 all around
I guarantee you will have one of the meaniest looking SOM TA's

And if you need a set for a good price I can turn you onto someone.

LMK,
Kevin

Whats your budget for these tires? Some of the tires listed here are expensive. You can easily spend as little as $100 a tire up to and over $200. By knowing how much you're willing to spend, it'd be easier to help narrow down a tire.

these are both good. I had the Goodyear GS-D3's and now have the BFG's. A lot of guys in my area run the Kumho's because they're cheap($100 ea.). The goodyears are kinda pricey, and the bfg's fall somewhere in the middle. Like was mentioned before, a price range would be helpful!

I have Kuhmo Ecsta Supra tires on mine. I got them basically because they are cheap. When they wear out I will likely go with nitto 555 road racing tires all around.

Go with the black Fiske FM5's they look killer on a SOM WS6. As far as tires, you guys are all recommending (sp?) very expensive Z rated high performance tires. Frankly those tires are nothing but overkill on a daily driver. Kumhos are good but I have had lots of people come back and be mad because they don't wear for ****. ( I sell tires and wheels at my part time job, where I have been there for over 6 years. ) BFG's or Nittos I think would be your best bet. Get either the G-Force KDW or the Nitto NT555. Both tires are great tires and have like a 300 or more treadwear. You will get good mileage out of them and they handle good in the rain.

If money is no object, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is the best tire out there, period. If money is of concern, Kumho Ecsta MX will suffice.

Michelin's hands down, are some of the best tires out there. But, be ready to pay for them. They will be well over the 200 dollar mark but well worth it.

I know that GM High Tech ran a SOM TA a couple of issues ago with the Black Fiske FM5's. Sorry but I don't remember what month it was

hey guys, awesome advice, thanks a lot!

I don't really have a budget, I'll pay whatever as long as I know I'm getting something worth it. I would like something that handles well in the rain though, and that won't wear too fast...

Sounds like Michelin is winning so far...

Have you considered the Fuzion ZRi, treadwear is rated @ 320, a few people on here run them, and seem happy with them $113/tire @ tire rack
BTW they are made by Bridgestone, so they aren't some off the wall/no name brand

Goodyear GS-D3's are excellent in the rain.

i just got the bfg gforce sport and i love them--and the tread design is really nice--they were originally designed for sport compacts but they work great on the ss. i sell tires too for a living and from what ive seen the absolute best tire is the new ps2 michelins. they are awesome tires--just a little out of my budget. michelins are not cheap but they are the best out right now.

dont confuse her with treadwear ratings, that rating is only good for the same manufacture tire, NOT comparing different brands.

Goodyear GS-D3s are wonderful all around tires. They perform exceptionally in the rain and dry.
