Default GSD3s or Nitto DRs?

I see alot of threads for the GSD3s but how about comparing them with Nitto Drags? Which tires would you pick and why? I know that the Nittos won't last as long but which one would be better for traction? Will the Nittos give a better 60' at the track or are they both equal? Thanks.

Wow no one? I was thinking on running the nittos out back and the GSD3s up front.

All drag radials will give more traction than a regular street tire. Period. The GS-D3's are great tires. It depends on what you want, but, if I were you, I would get BFG Drag radials on the back and GS-D3's in the front. You will get crazy traction with the BFG's. With your power levels you should dead hook on the stock converter with these tires, when heated.

Keep in mind BFG drag radials will only last around 5,000 miles, you may get a couple more thousand out of the nittos but not much more, and at the sacrifice of traction. The GS-D3's should last a good 10-20k depending on driving style.

I have GSD3 all the way around, and they are the best street tire I have ever used, but they are not made for drag racing. Your talking about two totally different tires. If you want a tire that good for both the street and strip I have been hearing good things about the MT drag radials.

I just bought some BFG DR's. I plan on taking them to the drag strip tomorrow night. My current best 60ft (stock tires) is 2.2, I'll let you know how much better my 60ft is with these. From what I hear through the grape vine, BFG's are the way to go for drag racing! If your hard core, I'd go with MT's.

Man.. I ran BFG DR's before... I could not cut anything better than a 2.0 in them. On my MT ET streets I'm down to a 1.72 60' The MT Drag radials are not hardcore racing tires, but I still hear many good things about them.

Maybe, and I hope, you'll have better luck with the BFG DR than I did.

From the sounds of it.......Me too!!!! I didn't want to go with the MT's cause I got a stock rear end. I figured those drag radials would be less punishing on my rear end. I hope to knock off more than .2 off my 60ft times. I'll let you know how it goes!!!!

Ahh yeah a stock rearend hates MT ET streets... I broke a 10 bolt on a 1.78 60'

To be honest, if the track is somewhat prepped I would think you would do fine.. I know you'll do much better than if you ran street tires!!

I have GSD3's on all corners also and they are awesome. But, for straight line traction you will want to go with the Nittos. The GSD3's are more for cornering and street driving, and even rain.

I don't have a stock converter anymore. Ok so a toss up between the BFGs and the Nittos. Now which between these 2 would be better in rain? Sometimes the rain just comes outta no where here and I don't wanna be caught with my shoes untied, so to speak. I'll run the GSD3s up front though so at least I'll have steering.

nittos are far better in the rain...when i had about 25% tread left on the bfg's i couldn't go above 40 in the rain without hydroplaning. It was pretty scary.

So that is what I'll run. GSD3s up front and Nittos out back. I'll take the compromise in traction but I want a consistent car on the street as well as the track. Makes no sense to me to have a quick car at the track and then a car that can be potentially dangerous if it rains. Thanks for the opinions guys.

I ran my BFG's at the track this friday and got my 60ft times down from 2.3 to 2.0. I was hoping to get much better 60ft times. I did get my ET down .4 though. Pretty good I guess. But from what I'm hearing, I'd go with something MT's. Other people are getting better 60ft times with the MT's. I'd recommend those after what I ran. My runs were nice, but I think I could have shaved much more off if I would have gone with the MT's!!! Lesson learned.........

I've been running Nitto 555R (the drag radial) on the back, and 555R2 (the road race tire) up front. I was *very* happy with their performance at the track, and at the autocross events. However, as this is my daily driver, the 555R's just don't last long enough, so this last time, I replaced the rears with GS-D3's.
They've only been on for a month or so, but they sure don't seem anywhere near as sticky as the Nittos on the street. I hope to hit the strip in the next month or so, and we'll see if they at least perform close to the Nittos there...
If you haven't ordered your tires yet though, I highly recommend the Nitto 555R2 up front... :yup:

The main reason why I want GSD3s is because of the wet weather traction. I can live with the Nitto Drags out in the rear but I need some kind of control if the rain should happen to fall.

I have 2 friends who put these on last fall and saw .1-.2 tenths fall off thier 60 ft times. They are great tires. I've heard they are coming out with a 315 wide in 17" soon. I have Nittos now and they will last a long time and are decent in the rain. The MT's can't be beat at the drag strip.
Have you thought about just buying another set of wheels for the track ? I picked up an extra set of used wheels for the rear and threw the Nitto's on those.

Yeah I have an extra set of wheels with me. But I want to know what the car will run in street trim. Like I said before, with excellent tires at the track, I know that I will get a good time but if I can't use that same traction on the street, the time is meaningless. Unless I run at an event at the track. That's a different story.
