Default Few questions about the MT street radials...

Some new MT street radials are on the way (275-40-17); I cant wait to try these out, but I had a few questions. I know with my Nitto's, if I run any higher than 23 psi (and thats hot, not cold), they will wear unevenly; what is a good pressure to run the MT street radials for everyday use and good wear? Second, when Im racing, the Nittos were best at about 18.5 psi; what is a good racing psi for the MT's? Thanks guys!!

i cant comment on the psi for daily driving on the m/t radials. but i totally agree with you on the nitto statement. higher psi killed those tires fast. i have a feeling 22-24 psi would wear best as the contact patch is most evenly spread.

i run the 275/60/15 radial and have found 20-21 psi to be the best for launching. i couldnt believe it but others have found the same as well. i have tested down at 17 and 15 psi only to have lost traction big time.

i drive to the track at 24 psi. drop them down to 21 psi. pull 1.50 60' times and am very happy with them.

Well I hate to break it to you, but you aren't gonna get good miles out of a set of M/T DR's.. They will not last anywhere near as long as a Nitto 555R and they aren't good in the rain either really. The M/T's have a MUCH softer compound.. I wouldnt run them with over 20-25psi and went you want to air down I'd go somewhere between 12-16lbs for good traction..

Also, alot of guys give up on these tires and say that they won't hook good... But, what they dont understand is that the M/T DR's are just like the M/T ET's.. You have to do a good smoky burnout with them to get them to hook real good. Trust me..

i personally dont have a problem with them. ive had mine for about 6 months and ive used them at the track and on the street and i still have alot of tread left on them. i can hook alot better with these than the nittos on the street and at the track.

I fully realize that these wont last as long as Nittos or other dr's, but, I really just wanted to know what daily psi I should run or even wear. As I said, if I ran the Nittos any higher than 23 psi (hot, not cold), they would wear like crazy in the middle. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a daily psi on the MT's; im wondering if I should run a low daily psi like the nittos for even wear. Also, Im wondering what a good track psi would be be for this tire in a 275-40-17? Usually its a lot of trial and error, but at the track Im gonna go to I may not be able to get more than a few runs in, so if anyone has any experience Id appreciate it

12-16 psi? damn thats low enough to cup the tire. its still a radial tire. its not a wrinkle wall. like i said i am on the brink of 1.4 60' at over 3500 lbs. i guess you will have to just test yourself.

my friend cut a low 1.6 on the 275/40/17's last weekend. he even pulled up the driver's tire! I'd run 20-22 on the street. 18 at the track.

You'll be lucky to get 3000 miles on them if you drive on them everyday. They're a very soft sticky tire and although it can be driven on the street they're mainly for track use. its like a super soft slick with grooves.

excellent tire though.

gator how tall are your tires? i'm considering getting some 275/50/15's

My buddy has some 275/50/15 on his Demon. He has about 5000miles on them and a few track days. There is still plenty of tread left

i still dont buy 3K miles out of a set unless you are doing a lot of racing. but again its my opinion versus others. i have personally seen 9K miles out of a set of 235/60/15 (26x8) m/t on a 240 nissan

som - i have the 28" (275/60/15) version of the m/t and love them. i am not sure how much better than are then the low profile versions since a local vette pulls consistent 1.53-1.55 with the 275/40/17

makes me want to throw rocks at my big tires since i am trying to get in the 1.4x with them.
