Default Need help with BFG KDW TAs for my SS

I have an 01 SS. After alot of research, I ordered a set of BFG KDW TA's. I picked them up Saturday and took the car to a tire shop to get them mounted. Well... a few hours later they still weren't ready. They can't get the bead to fully pop. They tried many tricks but nothing worked. They spent Saturday and Sunday on them and gave up. Monday I took them to tire shop 2. They tried for a few hours and had the same result. They thought I had a bad set of rubber so they ordered me a new set. They came in Tuesday and there was no change. I picked up the tires and went to tire shop 3. Same thing. I went one more place and still no luck. As you can probably guess, I'm kinda tired of this. I have been in contact with BFG Customer support many times. I have to call them back from a BFG Dealer in the morning. They are going to try a different type of tire if there's something I like.

Does anyone have BFG KDW TAs on Stock SS 10 spoke 17" rims? If so how did they get them on??

you have to beed the kdw at like 80+psi sometimes at like 120, i work at a tire shop, and i have installed them on many rims, they are a pain in the ***, but you have to beed them well above 60psi, i know it doesnt sound safe, but thats the only way.

One shop had them up to 125psi today. They were scared to death but it didn't do any good. They have been up over 90 at each shop.

well the best thing to do, that helps is to on the side that isnt beeded yet, spray soapy water on the rim and tire or use the tire lube, both work great, you have have to soak it so it slides up on the rim easier, g-force tires have one the hardest sidewalls

They have used a ton of soap, grease, and anything else that would lube it up. Nothing. Are yours on 17" 10 spokes? There is a lip on the outside of the rim that it looks to be getting stuck on.

Nope - I live in Arkansas.

They have been well past 60psi. They sat for 2 hours in the sun saturday at 60PSI. The first shop went to 100. The second shop to 125. The third shop only about 70, and I don't know about the 4th, but they were a large truck tire shop and put alot of air in it while standing way back.

Yeah - the whole thing sucks. We even tried a new set to see if I had just got a bad set.

I'm not real sure what BFG company will do for me in the morning. I guess we'll see.

Thanks for trying to help!!!

the problem is the rim, the SS wheels have a very sharp lip that catches the bead, i had the exact same problem with fuzions. my advice would be to file on the sharp edge on the inside of the rim to give it a rounded over area to ride up on and also lube it up good and take the pressure to 100-125...

I've got some KDW's on my stock 10-spoke SS wheels and the tire shop that put them on didn't have any problems getting the beads to seat.

u need to try and pulse the air when u r putting it in. also lube the **** out of the rim and tire til u think it cant take any more lube. i install those things daily and thats one of the reasons i went with the g force sports instead. beaded up much nicer.u may need to let the air out a couple times and then refill it again. thats the nature of the bfg tires, they are the worst tire to bead up. i put a set of 35 series 19's on an accord a few weeks ago and it took me 2-1/2 hours. now figurethat it takes me 10-15 minutes to do a standrard set.

Your KDW's are probably old, and sat on a shelf for a while......

I had the same problem with mine going on stock 10 spokes. The guy that did it said it took alot of soap and tire lube, and 100psi..... In fact he used soooo much lube and soap that he recommended that I not get on it and launch it for a week, just to make sure I dont brake the bead and spin rim in the tires...

I got my tires from Discount Tire Direct... but they were 2 years old I believe... Another local member had the exact problem that I had... his were 3 years old

low profile and "curb rash protecting" tires are hard to seat on rims

specificly the 10 spoke SSs compound the problem
