Is there a significant traction difference between 315 and 285 widths?

Default Is there a significant traction difference between 315 and 285 widths?

Is it really that much better for traction between a 285 and 315 width rear tire? I've seen 315s from behind, but if someone could post pics of 275s-195s, let me know. I want a meaty tire, but I think 315 may be a bit excessive. And what size rim would be ideal for 285s?

Depends a lot on the actual tire.

a NT-555 in 275 will grip a hell of a lot better than some nameless 315.

Ya but I think he was asking if a NT-555 in 275 is gonna grip just about as good as a 315 . Interesting question, Id like to hear more input on this please

if they're the same tire, then the 315 would grip better, but it would also hydroplane more. Then again, once you get radials, hydroplaning is just a way of life, so what does it matter?

Only thing would be price of a 275 vs. a 315.

A wider tire of the EXACT same brand should grip better, based upon the fact of the avaialble rubber sitting on the ground . . .

Now if the two tires are on the same width rim the added rubber may be totally wasted.

Technically yes, but still not guarantee, and the hydroplaning is an issue, and driving in the snow would be a PITA. Wider is not always better . .

I think that a nitto or BFG drag radial in 315 will grab harder than the 275 would. Simply because there is more tread width. If you have more rubber on the ground, obviously you'll have more rubber gripping the pavement!

So basically IMO, a 315 will grab harder than a 275...........And will look a hell of a lot better.

Thanks guys!

::starts saving for wheels and tires::

Has anyone ever widened the stock salad shooters to 11" in the rear? I'd like to have a sleeper... sort of Or I'll just go to Prostars w/ 315 KDs or Nitto DRs in the back and something like a 245 or 275 up front.

Just curious? 315/30/18's? Semms a 17 would be tall and kill your rear end gear ratio.

how would 315's fit on a 10" wide wheel? I've got 275's on them now and they just don't seem wide enough. These are the nitto drag radials

Those would look way sick on an F-body! But you'd have to get like 285-295's for the front to make them look right and you'd have to have your rear fender wells tubbed to get them to fit. Not to mention that a 12' wide tire (which is what you would need to get them to fit) would be pretty damn expensive................But if it were done (and I'm sure it is) that would be totally ******* awesome.........

I got 275's on 18's in the rear and 245's on 17's in the front of my C5! I will be changing that to 315's in the rear and 275's on the front when I get some extra money. I plan on sticking with 17's up front and 18's in the back.
