Default What stock rims do I have?

After searching, and searching, and searching some more, I still cannot find out for sure which rims I have, or their measurements.

Here are some pictures: http://photobucket.com/albums/v397/T...mino/My%20Car/

I know that they're stock since they are stamped by GM. I just can't find the proper measurements for them. They're chrome, with 5 fat spokes.

The reason I'm asking this is because I'm looking to buy some new tires, but am unsure which to get. I believe I have 245/50r/16's on them, which means that the rim is 16" right? Would it be possible to fit some 315's on there?

Yea, they are 16". There is no way a 315 will fit on there, they are 8" wide, 315's are meant for a rim 3" wider than yours. Stick with the 245's.

I don't know anything about wheels, so please forgive my ignorance. Despite me reading the stickies I still don't grasp it enough to make this decision on my own.

What is the widest tire that I could fit on there?

The widest would be a 255. Check the sticky at the top of the wheels/tires forum.

Thanks. But according to the sticky, it's 245?

Does anyone make a replica of the GM wheels I have in a wider width, like 11"?

Not that I'm aware of but, you can have your wheels widened I've seen a few members do that.

How would one go about doing this? It's a daily driver, so it can't be out of commission for too long.

You can get ZR1's in 17X11. They are similar 5-spoke design.

I saw, but they wouldn't match. I was hoping to buy just 2 new rims for the rears. I can't really afford new rims all around. Heck, I can't really afford new rims out back, either

Even if you did widen the stockers, there just aren't any street tires wider than 255/50-16 to use on them.

Nothing in a semi-hard tread compound? Really? My dad's chevelle has giant meats on the back (not completely sure which size) that are fully treaded.

EDIT: I suppose he might have a smaller rim size...but I don't think so.

More than likely your dad has 15" diameter wheels on his Chevelle. There is an endless selection of tire sizes available for 15's.
Just put a 255/50/16 or 245/50/16 on there for now until you can save for new wheels and get a wheel and tire combo.

Also, BF Goodrich tires tend to have wider tread patterns than most manufactureres.

Yeah, I asked him yesterday. They're 15s.

We have a pair of 1984 vette rims out in the back that I think look pretty good, and they're pretty wide too. 2 have tires, 2 don't. I went out there with a tape measure this morning and the 2 without tires seem to be 9.5 inches wide, and 17.5 inches tall? Seemed kind of strange. The other 2 tires, which look the same size, have a tire size of 255 50r16's. I really don't think that's right, though, because they measured so much larger. I think they also look different than the other pics I've seen. I'll try and take some pictures and post them up here. I'm hoping they're wide enough for 315's...or at least something wider =/.

Wheel size is NOT measured from overall dims . . . wheel sizes are measured to where the tires seat . . . FYI.

315 series tires REQUIRE 11" wide wheels PERIOD . . .

Bottom line, if you want bigger tires that 255/50ZR16 . . . Buy new wheels.
