Pretty much. Takes several whacks, but they come out.

Some people take the hubs off in order to be safer, but I don't and I've never had any problems.

I just put the stud in place by hand, then I toss a few washers on it and tighten a lugnut on the stud to pull it into place.
This method works good.

Try any local shop or even a NAPA. Or one of your friends who has a shop press. Or Sears sells a kit to pull them into place.

Is the process on the rear the same as the front? I tried to bang the stud out with a hammer but noticed there's a gear behind the hub.

4 channel ABS.... the stock studs will hammer out and you can maneuver it out. If you're putting in new aftermarket (ARP, etc) longer ones, technically you have to pull the axles. BUT some people grind the head of the new ARP stud into a "D" shape and it gives it just enough clearance to slide in. That's what I did on my 99 WS6...
