Default wide or not wide, that is the question.

ive changed my mind alot trying to find wheels for my car, and ive ruled out 18's all together due to traction, price of tires etc. so now im starting to wonder if i would really even want 17x11's, i really dont wanna do the BFH, worry about my fenders, or bumpstops or possible caliper rubbing, or rubbing with more than 1 passenger, or tracking on uneven roads due to wideness... just wondering if anybody has 315's and would rather have a more subtle 17x9.5 all around with sticky tires in the back?

also, anybody have any pictures of a car with 17" zo6's all around? i tried searching but nothing came up. im wondering if they would look too small in the rear, due to the multiple spokes

I've sometimes wished I wouldnt have gotten the 11's. It sucks not being able to rotate them. Your buying a couple back sets before even 1 front set depending on how you drive. Those are my only complaints.

The pros just out weigh the cons to me. It looks so sweet on our cars, almost like they should've came with them. If need be you can get Sumitomos(!sp) for a little over a hundo, and they're decent tires. Did I already say they look bad *** on our cars.

Anyway, I do see at what your getting at. It took me about 3 months before I made up my mind on what rims/sizes to get. Just take a deep breath and give it some time.

lol these damn wheel decisions have been the hardest thing ive ever had to do, i really want to make sure i know what i want, because i dont want to pay alot for new wheels/tires and not be happy with them when i look at my car, or run into a ton of problems, that would just **** me off.

i just need some opinions from people that already have wide wheels and find out what they like/dislike, and see if i can deal with that on a daily basis.

also, you've had your wheels for a very long time, how has the polishing been? where i live it will hit 110 degrees here soon, and i dont know if i'd want to go out and start polishing my wheels everytime it rains (monsoon season is in the middle of summer).

It's difinetly a tough choice. Like I said, my only complaint is not being able to rotate the rims/tires.

If you ever do figure it out you better put up some pics!

Polished wheels aren't bad but they require a lot of maintainence if you do alot of driving. Its already been almost 110 all week long here. I usually clean mine once a week. When it gets hot out here I wait for the Sun to go down and then usually clean them. It still stays in the high 90's low 100's at night usually, but at least the Sun isn't baking on you. I dont even like to be in the garage in the daytime.

I have resanded and polished them a couple of times as well.

go wide or go home lol...hey i also have a NBM trans am and to tell you the truth get the rears as wide as humanly possible without it sticking out of the fender well....

my good friend has american racing TTII's 17x9.5/17x11 and they're the nicest 17" wheel i have seen on our cars, ever...im sure fiskes and all that look good too but dam, not for $5000 lol...personally im getting 19's (under $2000)was gonna get 18's but they gave me a good deal for the 19's.. already took the plunge and i got them staggered(19x8.5/19x9.5)..dont have pics yet but believe me they are GORGEOUS on the car, look alot like baby HRE's...they are nice enough that if and when i wanna race somebody seriously ill take my happy *** home and swap for my drag radials on smaller rims, then come back & swap em again...lol its a give & take but hey

also i dont know how well my toyo tires will be like for traction on the 19's so i cant comment on that...im sure its gonna suck on the low end but bigger rims usually = more mph...most races i come across anyways are usually "rolling" (these dam srt-4's)...so lets pray my 285/35/19 will hold on to something

OH and chrome ZR1's (17x9/17x11) personally look the best on our cars(almost as nice as the TTII's), & dropped of course...ZO6's are ehh, more for camaro's than T/a's...here are my wheels btw...

i was actually looking at those specific wheels when i was looking for 18's, very nice wheels you got. and ya 19's arent the most track friendly, but it should look pretty good.

ive never actually seen a T/A with 17x11 tt2's in real life (they are only on older muscle cars, no 4th gens) so im only going off pics, ive seen everything else though, and yes zr1's look great, but my friend already has them on his t/a, and my other friend just ordered some 17x9.5's for his t/a, so if i got those, i'd be the 3rd one in our little "group" with them lol.

maybe if i saw a nice lowered t/a with tt2's i'd be sold, who knows. i really like the wheels that whiterhino has, and planned on getting them, but i decided i didnt wanna spend that much on wheels.

my .02 is that unless on your particular car you cant afford more than $300 or so per tire stay away from 11 inch wide rims. a narrower 275 good tire looks better than a 316 sumitomo or some crappy tire IMO

for you i think you should get TT2s, and if you cant afford 315 GSD3s then you should go with a 10 or 11 inch wide rim and go with some Nittos or 9.5 for all with some BFGoodrich or Goodyears

what dont you like about the sumitomo's looks? i know they have crappy performance, but i dont think they look bad for 100$ a piece. i also planned on going with a DR one of these days, probably nitto DR's

Here ia my 99SS with 17x11 Zr1's and 315 Nittos. No rubbing at all, and no modifications were done to make em fit.
