Default 3rd gen wheels on 95 TA

Is it safe to do this, I only need them on there for like a week while my wheels get powdercoated, I know they will look bad and I wont drive much but I want to be sure it will be safe.

Don't see why it wouldn't be safe, more of an issue of will they really fit? 3rd Gens had very strange offsets front and rear . . . .

My friend put his '86 TA rims on his '95 Formula. The wheels are different offsets, so they stick out a little bit, but nothing horrible. You'll be safe.

Word of caution. If you have new or close to new brake pads they won't fit and will hit the calipers. I had a set of GTA wheels on my 94 Camaro V6 for about a week waiting for my new wheels and tires to show up. They worked until I had to replace the brake pads during that time and then they hit the wheel. They stick out about an inch and a half from the fenders. I didn't think it looked that bad but I got some grief from people I worked with though. I believe I had 225/60/16 tires on them at the time.

I don't see how having new brake pads could affect how the wheel fits.... The caliper doesn't get bigger or smaller depending on the brake pads.

It pushes the caliper out closer to the face of the wheel. With worn brake pads there was some clearance but once the thick new pads were put on it pushed the caliper out towards the wheel face and it made contact and no longer fit.

But how? The caliper is bolted on and the pad is pushed in toward the rotor using the caliper as a object to push off of onto the rotor. Unless the design was different back then, I dont see how it would have affected anything, did you replace the rotors aswell?

NO. The caliper is on slider bolts. It is pushed back and forth on the slider pins and as the pads wear it pushes the caliper more towards the inside of the car, away from the face of the wheel. When the brand new pads were on it pushed the caliper all the way towards the wheel face and made contact. That's the reason the 4th gens use a larger offset wheel, for caliper clearance.
