Prepare to have the sides of your bumper torn up by debris if you get the 315s.

I'm pretty sure that 315/35/17 has the same size sidewall as a 275/40/17.

the sidewall of the two is within 1 millimeter... the 315 has a sidewall of 110.25mm and the 275 is 110 even, of course this varies with brand...

Naturally you will hook better on a 315 if both tires are the same kind.

Yea, if you're going with the same tire the 315 will hook slightly better due to having a wider "footprint". But if you compare a 315/35/17 Sumitomo to a 275/40/17 BFG or M/T ET Street then naturally the 275 would be a better choice due to tire compound and design of the tire.

Here is a 275 vs 315 of the same brand. The 315 gives me much better traction compaired to the 275.

As far as which tire hooks better, I can only guess that the 315 Nitto hooks better than the 275 Nitto. I can tell you that the 275 Nitto DR hooks better than the 315 Goodyear GS D3. I ran both on my car, and was surprised at the smaller Nitto's ability to hook. And the D3 can hook, both the 275 and the 315.

As far as looks go, there is NOTHING like stuffing a 315 in back of the TA!!

There a few pics below, but here is the link to all the recent pics: http://www.musclecarsoforlando.100me.../Bob%20Cherry/

HOWEVER, be forewarned that I did suffer a severe sidewalll cut on the 315's, and ended up having the fenders rolled. But, as you can see from the pics, it's worth it.

PS Those are WS6 rims that have been widened 2" and then I used an 1.25" spacer behind them. I could have used a smaller spacer, but then you have clearance problems on the inside.

Not in all cases. I can only get grip at 40+ mph. And that's with the 315s gs d3.

Well that's also with 500+ HP.

I found that the GS D3 hooked much better than many other tires... just not as well as they Nitto DR.

One thing to consider is a wheel to mount a 315 on is going to be heavier. That means more weight. It may be only a few pounds of static mass but factor in the rotational mass of the few pounds. Suspension is key in hooking as well as tires. Look at the outlaw 10.5 class or the cars running 8's on drag radials.
