315 Tire Choice - Help
Ok Im trying to decide on which I should get...either Sumitomo HRTZ or Nitto 555 DR, car is a DD...I dont do burnout hardly ever, rear had 65k miles on it. I drive it in the rain and snow too...which should I get?
BTW Im hoping by next winter I will have a beater car so I dont have to drive it in the snow.

Uh, sumitomo's are really your best bet. They are THE BEST DD 315. Just not so good on traction (when racing that is) they are good in the rain. Not sure about snow (never tried the F-body+snow combo, sounds crispy&crunchy)
They are cheap and will certainly preserve your rearend as they don't hook worth a damn. The nitto's will hook better and handle better but will last about 1/2 as long and the wet traction won't be as good. Plus they will be 150$ more for a pair.

Stay away from the Nittos if you DD the car in rain and snow. I haven't had any personal experience with the sumitomos, but as I understand it they aren't really comparable in performance to Goodyear or BFG. 315s of any brand will be difficult in the snow. My vote goes to the GS-D3s. And if you mention the cost of the tires, just remember that there are only four pieces of material connecting your vehicle to the ground. If you don't want to spend for a good quality 315, get smaller tires. Just my two cents.

I cant afford a more expensive tire right now sorry....my car just needs tires...I dont care what they are to be honest...I want to spend about $100-$120 a tire and those seem like my only option right now....

your going to regret it... most people who cheap out on tires do. I know you dont want to hear it, but if you just try to save up and spend 60 more per tire, you can get the GSD3s, and after driving on them you'll never drive on anything else again. JMHO

With all the money we put into cars, why waste on the most important component of driving, the tires.
I use BFG KD 315/35ZR17 in the rear and 275/40ZR17'sup front. They are KD's. not the KDW's.Very good tire for left/right/braking and pretty good forward traction, for astreet tire.
The Nittos are DD's for allot of people, and some even use them for SCCA SOLO2. Good tire.
Good Year's GS-D3's are pretty darn good too.
Now, Nitto is coming out with a new tire in that size, NT-01. Sweet tire. Very aggressive in traction and road racing, as the sidewalls are stiff, much stiffer than the Drag Radial so you will get the traction and stiffer sidewall for the twistys.

Here is a new low buck high performance tire, well regarded in Europe, and now available through AFS wheels. They have 315's for like 160 bucks a tire. Yes, it is very difficult to harness all that power we have, but safety should be a priority too. Get a tire with a solid sidewall vice a DR And drving in the snow, rain and ice poses more problems anyways.

ANd here is a show car, yes a Mustang that used them. They are also on Ebay

Well first, there is no way either of these tires are going to get you through any amount of snow or below freezing temps..
315 High performance Summer tires are not meant for cold conditions, so neither of those choices is going to be safe for that, but if you want cheap then go with the sumi's being they will last a bit longer and are def. inexpensive.

But, since he is committed to the size, these are his choices we have offered for his budget etc etc.
Snow and Ice, get a AWD/4WD or some form of traction control, or snow tires.
Also, Kumho makes a 315/35ZR17 Ecsta V700. It is a sticky tire, great price, relatively, and will be almost as sticky as a Nitto DR.

Dip Stick nailed it....I'm going with Sumi's for my 275/315 combo, and I have BFG Gforce T/As on my chrome snowflakes for if/when I have to drive in the central Illinois crap.
