Default Does wheel width effect....?

Ok Im getting wheels, two 18x9.5 for the front and two 18x10.5 for the back. I used the tire caculator to find what tire combo are similar in sidewall height as well as overall diameter. I decieded I like the 295/35/18 in the back and the 255/40/18 in the front.

What Im wondering is: Will the 1 inch difference in the wheel width effect the sidewall height of the tires differently? If so, how much?

Please excuse me if this is obvious, Im not real fimiliar with tire fitments.

Your sidewalls would be as follows:
Front - 102mm
Rear - 103.25mm
It is easy to determine. Just multiply the tire width times the aspect ratio (its a percentage so divide it by 100) and that is your sidewall. (ex. 295 * 0.35 = 103.25)

So to answer your question, no the sidewall height will not be affected. You selected two very similarly sized tires from an overall rolling diameter point (which is good).

Thank you, very helpful. Seeing tires that are too short or mismatched height drives me crazy... Plus I dont want to deal with ABS problems...

255 may be a little narrow for 9.5" wheel. Not that it's dangerous or anything, but you will probably get that weird sloping-in sidewall look. I would recommend a 275 width tire for a 9.5" wheel. That gives it a perfect vertical sidewall. Plus, in this case, it would give you sidewalls very close in height front to back.

I agree with putting 275s in the front.. I would put 275/35/18 in the front and 295/35/18 in the rear.

Im pretty sure there is a more of a difference in side wall height there. Correct?

I just looked it up, a 275/35 and 295/35 have over a 1/4 inch difference in sidewall height and .55 of an inch difference in overall diameter. (I heard ABS wont like more than a 1/2 inch difference.

Yeah I thought you said 255/40/18. Sorry. The 275 will still look better because it will allow for a vertical (not "stretched") sidewall.

The 255/40 was actually what Im wanting, its almost the exact same size as far as rolling diameter as the 295/35, I think the 275/35 on the front would be even more of a difference.

Doesn't matter, 7mm is not enough for anyone, even with a ruler, to notice. Plus it's nowhere near enough to affect abs in any way. You are lucky enough to have a 9.5" wheel up front. Take advantage of it. Get some nice beefy tires up there to complement the nice beefy tires you'll have in the back.

I'd love to run 275's up front, but with an 8.5" wheel, 265 will be pushing it.

am i just confused or what? so ur sayin that the side walls will be over 10 cm or 4 inches tall on a 295/35? i guess it could be depending on where u measure from. is it from like the edge of the tread to the tip of the bead?

i just measured a 245/50 and i don't see how it can have a 122.5 mm, 12.25 cm, or 4 7/8 in. side wall measurement. i'm not sayin ur wrong, because i know this is how it is supposed to be calculated...but still it doesn't look like it matches up.
