Default Just got slicks, how do i not break my rear?

Im just looking for some launching advise to avoid destroying my stock 10 bolt rear. I have an A4, steel drive shaft, and 2.73 gears. my rear end is the stock 10 bolt.

what RPM to launch at, and then when i take off, can i just punch it, or do i need to feather it still, but this time to save the rear rather then to keep traction like before.

if you're on stock stall converter i say stall it out to whatever it will allow you to (around 2000 i think). at your power level i think you'll be just fine, but with these ten bolts....who knows. you could break it on the street, or anywhere for that matter. the beauty of autos is that in most cases, the 10 bolt will last longer than it would in a 6 speed. reason being, when you're staged waiting to launch and you have you car stalled out, the gears in your 10 bolt are preloaded by the power thats being transmitted to the rear end. 6 speeds however are sitting at the light in first with the clutch pushed in and have that slop or slack to take up when they feather or dump the clutch. but at your power level and stock stall...i say give her all shes got

And I kinda hope you are...if you can't afford to replace the 10-bolt, you shouldn't be running slicks (which is what he was eluding to). You stand a better chance of it surviving behind an auto, so you at least have that going for you.

having an A4 w/273's and near stock whp it wont be to harsh, but your days are numbered now. start saving. btw are slicks worth the .1 or .2 off your 60' time compared to a new rearend for now?

It wont break if your car is mostly stock. I have et streets on my 2.73 geard 10 bolt with a stock stall and it launchs fine. Dont bring it up on the converter when you launch it though if you have a stock converter, just flash it.

Default your kidding right

i think before you should ever think about slicks you should get enough motor to justify it but you already did it so my advise its dont heat them up at the track and hope they dont hook 100% or have a tow truck ready it wont take to many runs before it explodes on you you should have went with like a 275 street tire they will last alot longer and not break your **** good luck

Completely disagree. I had et streets on my car back when it was lid/exhaust only and even then it wouldnt hook on them unless they were heated up. Infact I even have a video of my car floating around, I'll have to find it, of me heating up the et streets, and still spinning them to the 60' you wont break a ten bolt with a stock/bolt on auto car with 2.73s and slicks.

did you have a stall when you didnt hook? ^^ i find it hard to beleive you not hooking on a slick in an automatic with no stall. a street tire is a different story

I'd say your fine really. As long as it's a A4, I've seen 360+ rwhp A4s run slicks with stock 10 bolts without breaking them. Then again, luck is a factor too.

No I did not. The car was completely stock other than a SLP loudmouth and SLP lid.

This was on 325/50/15 DRs After a good burnout they still spun a good 40 or so feet. The ET Streets hook a bit harder IMO.

Vid works when I click on it.. And the car has never been dyno'd but it did go a best of 13.28 @ 107 when it was exhaust/lid only. I have no track times or numbers with the current mods, because I just got them done a week or two ago.

Knock on wood! My stock 10 bolt is also on borrowed time, and I know it will take a dump one day!
And asfar as launching?,, I always just punch it at the last amber....check out video in my sig.
