Default Bump stops needed?

Found out sat the new 17" Z06 rims are rubbing on my wife's TA. Yesterday spent a bit of time griding it down and still have a little bit of contact, but there the rubber half of it still rubs.

It ok to take the stop out of there and bend the bracket or there an adapter I can buy later and weld in?

I can't even picture a Fbody ever having to use those!

I had to cut my BS's in order to run my 18/10.5's. So far so good. Find someone with a plasma cutter and it will take you a few minutes and your good.

Thanks for the fast responses!

Got that from searching from other posts you have made.

Going to pick up an angle grinder tonight and see how much I can trim off.

Rim/tire combo is 17 X 9.5 and 275/40/17 also. Was pretty stoked about it and after hearing the squeeling driving around yesterday knew it couldn't be good. When I jacked the metal half was pushing against the tire and the bottom half was rubbing on the metal. Been lucky the wife hasn't had a blow out this last week going to work or anything.

Will post up some results of either griding it down or bfh mod to try and make it fit.

Hmm... I'm running 17x11 with 315/35 and I didn't have to modify anything, but a adjustable panhard bar helped a lot...

What width are the wheels, you shouldn't have to cut anything unless they are 11"s. Hell i barely had to touch anything, If they are wide DEFINITELY get an adj. panhard bar..

He just said 9.5"...which is kind of weird...they should fit perfect, unless the offset is way off.

I dissagree 100% I took them of my car, and it allowed the suspention to travel so far the the side wall of the tire contacted the wheel well lip and liced it to ribbons . . .

It would also be bad for the shock absorber since it now has no limiting device on suspensuion travel.

I too do not understand why you would EVER have an issue with the bumpstop utilizing a 275 tire and a 9.5" wheel unless the offset was WAYYY off.

I'm trying a bit of a different route...

My 18x11 CCWs tuck pretty far in in the back, and I was having some contact issues with the bump stops on hard corners. I ground the stops, and that seemed to work, but I've never liked how harsh they were.

So...I cut them off. BUT, I put bump stops on the shocks themselves. I'm gonna see how that works out for me...if I destroy the shocks, that's okay since I plan on replacing them with Konis eventually. There are lots of options out there for bump stops that ride on the shock shaft. I'm just not sure how effective they are. I guess I'll find out.

Have you ever looked at how little distance there is between the bump stops and the axles on a lowered f-body? It depends on the spring used, but there is usually very little room. Those "performance shops" don't know what they are talking about.

Well picked up an angle grinder last night and was able to get them down to where I am not concerned about it on the driverside for now. Passenger side has just a tiny bit of a gap that I am sure I will have to trim at some point in the future.

Not sure on why they would have trouble fitting like they do. Purchased the rims from Tomzwheels. Fronts fit fine, just had the problem with the driver rear. Maybe small discs or something on the car?

Didn't pick up 18's and go 315 because I didn't have a adj PHB and heard of issues so tried to work around it. Hopefully when I pick up 18's and some Nitto tires for the track I wont have problems.

Why would a bump stop effect side to side movement? I have mine on, and would trim them if need be. But I know a few guys who cut them off with no issues. Unless you plan on jumping rivers I think you'd be fine.
