Default Wanna share my expierience with GS-D3's and Goodyear.

So last week I was driving about 2 miles from my house and got a horrid vibration. I pulled over as soon a I felt it. It ended up being a blow out. It was the driver side rear tire. It's a 285/35/18 goodyear eagle gs-d3 with about 25k miles on them. The side wall ripped apart all the way around the tire. I will post pics up tomorrow if I have the time. I really think it was a defective tire and here is why. When I took my car out 3 weeks ago I want to my buddys shop with it to change the oil, grease the control arms and check the tire pressure. All was well except the passanger rear tire looked like it had a staple or a really small nail in it. I came to find out that it wasnt a nail though. I took both my rear wheels and tires to my other buddy who is a manager at NTB and he looked at my tires. He said that it is a belt coming through the tire! And the driverside had the same thing on it as well. We know its a belt because theres nothing on the inside of the tire and you cant pull it out. These tires still have alot of tread on them and were never burned up "that bad". I love the performance and the ability to get alot of milage out of these tires but decided on some Nittos instead. I just wanted to share this with you guys so you can check your tires for this. My front tires are perfectly fine though. They are 275/40/17 gs-d3's. So the guys running this size just check your tires for this. I also contacted Good year and told them I am willing to send them picks and the tires if they want to look into it and also told them im not looking to get them warrantied or anything from them since I got new tires any way and this is what they told me.

I found this wierd I told them I didnt want anything I just want to help them. I also told them that I am very satisfied with the performance of these tires and that this is the only bad thing. I will call them tomorrow since they didnt understand my email and the fact that I had a goodyear dealer look at the tires.

That sounded like a craze experience .I think These tyres are the best out there, for all-round performance I cannot fault them, But they have started to make them in Thailand and they handle like the cheapest/budget tyre, one guy hear in England was saying he replaced his German GS-D3 on his TVR for some more GS-D3 but these ones were made in Thailand, they look the same, but when you first get them they are very grease he said, he said as hard as he tried he could not stay on his local track “not grip, they handle like a different tyre”.

this kinda worries me, since i just got through buying a set of 4 of these. how do you go about finding out if they were made in germany or tawain? is is stamped on the side, or is there a certain code that translates into the country that they were made? all i know is that i had better get a lot better performance than the Cooper Zeon 2XS's that i'm replacing, for the price i paid for these things.....

OP, you got some pics of these tires to post up here? and it sounds like the email you got back is just a pre-canned response, and not a response that they should have given if someone had actually taken the time to read your email thoroughly.

Mine were made in Germany. I loved the performance too. They are great tires. Just a weird tire I guess.

Its stamped on the side of the tire were there made.

you sure that wasn't 275/35/18? or 275/40/17? it would have to be one of those two in order to stay the same overall tire height as stock.

the sidewall on a 275/40/18 would be too tall, and your speedometer reading would be off, and would possibly cause problems with your ABS, if you have that option....

I cant get them warrantied they are like 2 years old. But what ever I dont really care. If I bought the warrant from Discount tire they would have replaced them no questions asked.

You could get a tire from Goodyear if you wanted to they have been on back order for months. I am still waiting on mine. I had a nail in the sidewall, lucky me some dealer ships have Road hazard program that warranty tires with nails and stuff.

i was looking at an old GMHTP mag, and this guy was running 18x9.5 c5 z06 and ran goodyear F1 with 275/40/18 all the way around.

then he must have had something re-tuned for the extra tire height to compensate, or just didn't mind driving around with the speedometer/odometer being inaccurate.....because in an 18" tire/wheel, to keep the same overall height with a 275-width tire, you would need a 275/35/18

It will tell you were it was made on the wall of the tyre, Germany or Thailand (you said your's are made in the USA I’m pretty sure that they don’t make these tyres in the USA only Germany and Thailand)
If the GS-D3’s you have just bought are from Germany you will be very very impressed with there performance capability’s.I hope they are made in Germany, LOL. Good luck.

They do make them in the USA. I checked my front 275/40/17's and they said made in USA. I also checked my buddys 315/35/17's and they also said USA. I think it varies in size because my 285/35/18's say made in Germany.

i have GSD3s and they have been great to me, just that they wear really really fast, but other then that you dont really need them...at all on f bodys. They arnt drag tires there more for road courses not straight lines . I switched to nittos 555r and 555 for rear and front tires and they have lasted a long longer and where a LOT cheaper, with equally good grip.
