Default Stock Vette sizes trip ABS

Got a great deal on a set of used runflats - stock vette sizes 245-40-17 and 275-40-18.However there is a difference of an inch between height of front and back tires and it is upsetting my ABS.How does the Vette get away with this?

the rears need to be 275/35/18. its readin off of voltage from the wss. once there is a lot of difference between the rear and front wss it will throw a wheel speed sensor code. just take it down to 35's on the rear.

Default Abs

Yeah,I get that. But if you go to the tire sites and put in 1998 Corvette you will find that the stock sizes are 245-45-17 and 275-40-18. So how does the vette get away without any abs problems?

The Corvette ABS system is DESIGNED with different front a rear overall diameters of the tires. F-Cars ABS is not, it is designed for all four tires to be the same diameter, and thus since the tires you have are not, they spin at different speeds confusing the computer.

Tires you need are:

245/45ZR17 front

275/35ZR18 rear.

I might be talking out of my ***, but can't you change the tire size in the computer? I don't know if that'll effect the abs module, or if it's basically just to calibrate the speedo though.

FYI Computer re-program just fixes the speedo. ABS will still be screwed up.

I have 275/30/19s on the front and 295/35/19s on the back of my 02 WS6 with no ABS issues that I am aware of. How do you know that your tires are effecting yours (I am not doubting it is...I am just asking whats your car doing to let you know?)

Quite honsetly with a 1.6" difference on overall diameter of your tires, I'm not sure why your ABS has not thrown a code . . . cause it should.

275/30/19 = 25.5"

295/35/19 = 27.13"

Made a couple of hard stops after the tire/wheel change. The low tractoin light comes on and the brakes let up and back on again.Hasn't thrown a code yet.
The thing is, I bought the entire set of runflats used (no wheels) for 100.00 and to replace the smaller fronts with a better size it would be 700.00.So it's looks like there is no way out if I want to keep the runflats but to delete the abs.Oh well, at least that doesn't look to difficult.

Yep, you don't need the ABS unless your wife/girlfriend/other WOMAN drives the car. Get rid of that garbage.

Do you have traction control?

Removing ABS will reduce weight, increase air flow and remove future and current troubles you have at the same time.

Our ABS delete kits make it rather easy to remove your ABS system. They all include adjustable proportioning valves as well as all necessary components to make the conversion. Kits are in stock and ship typically within 24 hours of ordering.

I do have TCS. If I hadn't been so intrueged by the idea of run flats, I would have chose my tire sizes more carefully as I was aware of ABS problems caused by mismatched sizes. It just never occured to me that stock Corvette sizes would have a 1" difference in height.
I learned to drive pre-ABS and I do like the advancement that it offers and the TCS in wet conditions, so I'm hesitent to delete it.After a couple of sleepless night I decided on a plan of action- I pulled the fuse out. Aside from three dash lights,I can drive the car and brakes seem pretty normal. It's a temporary fix but gives me more time to choose a better solutiom. If the runflats wear quickley, then problem will be solved automatically!

I have Pirelli run-craps on my Cadi . . . HATE HATE HATE them . . . thanlkfully they are worn out in a mere 16,000 miles, so I can change to regular tires. If I get a flat, that's what a cell phone and road side service and/or towing is for . . . .

I hate them due to the sidewalls having basically zero flex, the ride is harsh, and IF you happen to get a nail in one, and it looses all it's air, it is a NIGHTMARE to find a shop that will service them. Took three tries to find a shop that would patch it, all of them insisted on trying to sell me a brand new $400 tire . . . NO THANKS! Or the BS of we can't service a 19" wheel . . .

I laugh, cause this is what they look like . . .

I guess a heavy right foot and 469 hp of supercharged V8 was no match. . . .
