Default Wiring through firewall

So yesterday i started wiring for my amp/sub setup in the trunk. Nothing fancy or too big, just a single 12'inch and a 600Watt monochannel amp with a 2-farad capacitor. I found a hole that was drilled in the firewall by the previous owner for an old alarm that is about 1/2 inch in diameter, would it be a problem sticking the 5 gauge wire for the amplifier through there, directly connect to the battery (with fuse) and be good to go? I wired it with zip ties through that hole, across the aftermarket strut brace and to the + terminal

I had it laying around and figured better safe then sorry, i always use 5 gauge wire on my setups. I'm just worried it might get too hot for the wire where i mounted it... but if you guys think its ok

Hey that's not overkill man, I read that anything over 800 rms you should have 0 gauge.

I got 1600 rms, I already had one 4-ga wire, someone told me to just run another 4-ga wire, he said that it's pretty darn close to a 0 gauge wire, so I said fuggit and that's what I did.

I would just make sure on that half inch hole that there is some kind of gromet around the wire. You don't want the power wire chafing though and cause a short to ground with a big power wire like that. I found that you can get gromets and rubber insulators at napa and other autoparts stores.
