Default Replaceing headunit

Ok so I could not find a definate answer for this.
-Can I replace my head unit and not the factory speakers?
-If so do I need to rewire the speakers to the head unit?
-Can I buy an adapter to make the monsoon system work with an aftermatket HU?
-What do i need to do?

Thanks for any and all input guys!

i do not believe you need an adapter. most headunits have the same output option, i think. you probably will need an antenna adapter though since the plug would be different. and of course you'll need some kind of adapter to fit the radio in.

According to your sig pic, I gather that you have a 1998-2002 Camaro.

If you want to replace the stock headunit, you need four things:

Wire Harness:
Standard 21-pin 1988+ GM harness. The Scosche number is GM-02B. The Metra number is 70-1858.

Mounting adapter to mount 1 DIN in 1.5 DIN opening:
Metra 99-3009 (flush mount)
humount (I'm not posting the website, but you can google the name)

Mini-GM to Motorola antenna adapter
(I think that is what its called)

Sometimes the stuff above is thrown in free when you buy a headunit from a site like Crutchfield or some other install site.

Steering Wheel Controls Adapter:
PAC SWI-X is the universal IR steering wheel control adapter. It'll work with most aftermarket headunits that have an IR sensor. PAC also makes brand specific wired units as well (ex: SWI-PS is for Pioneer headunits with the remote port on the back). The wired brand-specific unit works by plugging into the aftermarket headunit's wired remote port (therefore, make sure the headunit has a wired remote port before getting one of these wired adapters).

There is a pinned thread around here somewhere with all the partnumbers of the 3 things above you need. Its an easy process. Using your steering wheel controls with your aftermarket HU is another story . I havet he right module and have been messing with it for months and still cant figure it out.

I forgot about the steering wheel adapter and added it to my post above.

Which unit did you get? What's wrong with it?
