Default need help for usa spec pa-11 gm45 ipod interface

Hello there, I just ordered the usa spec pa11-gm45 and installed it in my trans am . It does not have the cd changer but i read somewhere something about all of the HUs came with the ports built in. So once i hooked everything up i get an issue with the ipod playing yet nothing coming through the speakers, it powers up fine all connections hooked up properly. It doesnt have the cd/source or aux it only has cd/play. I pushed that in, and nothing, ive tried playing a cd which works fine then pluggin in the ipod in hopes of it working but nadda. I was wondering if anyone could help me get this working. Thank you in advance. (note: the HU was manufactured 4/12/2000)

Firebirds have a CD/Play button that does the same function as the CD/Aux button in Camaros. Press once to start the internal single CD player, press again to switch to the external CD changer or input adapter. Each press will then switch betwen the two sources.

We have never confirmed compatibility by head unit date - only by car model year and/or internal markings. 4/2000 certainly seems like it would be late enough to be compatible but what year is your car? 2000 model cars should all be compatible but 1999 models were pretty much a crap shoot.

Thank you for your response, I only mentioned the date the radio was manufactured because its a 99 trans am in which i had to replace the HU and this HU came from a 2001 trans am. ( guess i should have mentioned that, my bad.) I just tried tapping the cd/play button once , twice with the ipod connected and playing but still nothing.

Well, it's certainly possible that you got a bad adapter. You wouldn't be the first - I've heard of several.

Also, sometimes reseting the adapter by unplugging it and plugging it back in will help (at least it does with the similar GM9-AUX adapter). It seems that sometimes the HU fails to recognize that the adapter is connected.

Really? ugh that stinks. Its def charging the unit and the ipod screen flickers then says GM ok to disconnect then the normal ipod interface pops back uo. I have unplugged it and reconnected it several times. What about the dip switch, by default they are all on. I bought this adapter because it said you can use the steering controls to skip through ipod songs and what not, but right about now its not working.

Try setting dip switch #2 off to switch to direct mode instead of playlist mode. I have seen a few complaints that direct mode is the only one that really works with older GM head units.

Also, try pressing the (4) button on your HU to make sure CD1 is selected.

I switched dip switch 2 to off and also hit the 4 button on the HU and still no results. Heres a silly question, do I have to have a cd in the HU while im trying to do this? I mean of done it with and without to this point.

Have you tried asking their tech support people: support@usaspec.com?

I have been using the same adaptor for a few years now myself.

In the Firebird style radios, you'll need to hit the CD button up at the top of the radio (which would select the internallCD player), then hit the Memory-4 botton (its unlabeled) to toggle between the IPOD and the AUX ports on the adaptor.

I dunno about the camaro style radios.
