Default What speakers to use?

Hey guys,
I recently bought a 02' FireHawk convertible and really need to upgrade the "bass" sound in the car. It has the "monsoon" system, but the rear speakers are aftermarket Alpines that were thrown into the car from the previous owner. The reason why there isn't that much bass is due to when the top goes down, the bar has to clear the back of the speakers, therefore the reason why the bass magnet is shorter (resulting into less bass).
My question is: "Does anyone have a subwoofer in their convertible trunk? and does it sound good, even though it is completely enclosed in the trunk?"

I don't have a convertable ... but my ex gf did in her car .... sounded excellent when the top was up, when it was down it sounded alittle more muffled but still a HUGE improvement over stock.
I just got her a small MTX 6000 10" with like a 250watt sub so it wasn't anything ridiculously special, but fine for her.
I'm sure doing something like that would add you the bass you want without adding too much weight.

Cool.
I don't need anything that will blow the doors off, just something a little better than what I have.
Thanx for your input.

I replaced the rear speakers in my car with 6.5" subwoofers from Kenwood and they sound great! The bass is nice and tight, and much better sounding than the Monsoon I had in my 98.

Yep, the Kenwood 6.5s fit in there perfectly with no modification needed. They don't have boomy bass like a 10 or 12 inch sub, but they have nice tight bass which sounds very clean. I'm using an Orion 222sx amp to drive them (it's set up 2ohms mono so it's putting out about 180wts or so)

xtincthawk, i dont have a vert but i did when i had a moostang...the set up i went for because i wanted the same thing you ar elooking for..just an improvement over stock, i got a lightning audio 10 inch sub, rms around 150 maxs around 500, with the lightning audio ampi want to say its the B-250, rms's at 150 and peaks at 750. and i picked up an amp install kit on ebay for 5 bucks. great sound. with the top down of course it was muffled but it still jiggled the rearview some. and i can't say anything bad about lightning audio, the sub was 39 new, i got a small truck style box i still had some room back there in the small vert trunk, that was about 70 i think (from bestbuy though i got jipped) and the amp i think runs for around 120 if im not mistaken. but i think in all i spent about 240 bucks i got a few other odds and ins just for fun when i went to put it in my z28 with t tops, installation was a breeze with the z, sounds even better, but seriously for 240 i couldn't think of a better set up, and if you price and compare some stuff i bet you could even get stuff cheaper than i did.
lightning audio 10 inch sub (150rms/500 max)
lightning audio b-250 amp (150rms/750 max)
q logic truck style box
amp kit (price really depends on where you get it)
its a perfect set up for what you are looking for.
hope that helps some
