Default HID conversion on 97 Camaro

I recently converted a set of stock headlights on a 97 Camaro to a conversion kit from Eurolights. My question is, has anyone installed an HID conversion kit to these types of headlamps? Not sure if I wanna go 6,000K or 8,000K.

The higher you go in color, the more light you lose. 8000K is like half the light of 4300K. I recommend 4300K. Lights approaching blue are also illegal and more likely to get you pulled over (and if you run them, you deserve it).

These kits are illegal and dangerous, though. Real HIDs with a projector have a cutoff that light won't shine above, because the lights are very bright and blinding to other drivers.

Please go to www.hidplanet.com and read up on the subject.

Yeah, yeah, whatever. I've been running 10,000K HIDs on my 98 Z28 for 2+ years and have NEVER been pulled over for them. And yes, I'm quite versed in HID usage. The reason I was going toward 6-8,000K is because they won't be as blinding as the 4,300K kits, but will still be a helluvalot brighter than the stocker pieces of crap! And just for the record, I do have mine angled down a bit lower to reduce headlight glare. I have been flashed before when I forgot my highbeams were on...but I have NEVER been flashed for having my HID (lows) lights on.

As far as the HID kits go, you can try eBay 9where I got mine), or from one of the sponsors on this board. Still trying to get info on how they'd work on a 3rd Gen with aftermarket headlight assemblies.

People who drive around with their fogs on all the time (instead of when it's, you know, foggy) are d-bags, anyway. 100x as bad with HID-kit fogs.

Wow dragonrage, you have a real hate on for this subject!! Every thread I look at about HID's in aftermarket housings...you chime in with how much its illegal, crap, and we're all "d-bags" for running them! I guess I'm a "d-bag" because I run HID's in my lows And in my fogs (which I keep on even when it's not foggy!) Get over it dragon, people are going to do with their cars as they see fit and if us people whom have HID's in aftermarket housings are doing fine with them and not blinding people or getting pulled over....then just let it be!
I've talked with some guys at Denver PD (the one's who hate everything), and Colo Highway Patrol, and they say that eventhough yes, it may be illegal, but that most Law Enforcement Agencies will not enforce nor write a ticket for it unless it is the main cause of an accident! They also told me that mine were fine as they are..if not better than most vehicles that have poorly aimed stock headlights!

To the OP, I had a set of Eurolights housings on my '95 T/A (which is fairly similar to the Camaro lenses) and they worked great! Here are some pics of them on my old T/A and my current T/A:

Your entitled to your own opinion! I like it and thats what matters to me, and no matter where I go, People Always compliment me on my lighting!

BTW, where's pics of your lighting setup?? It would be hilarious to **** with you on a daily basis if you lived here...I would get a kick out of it!
If you don't like people's lighting on their vehicles, stay of the damn roads!!

Okay, I've been itch'n to post these here...

Lowbeams

Lowas AND fogs

Hmmm...no more glare than regular halogen bulbs. And like TooFastT/A, got mine angled just a little more than stock. I know how annoying it can be to get blinded by oncoming drivers. You know, like all those humongeous SUVs whose headlights are right at eye-level to all those other drivers out on the road (projector beams or not)!

Yeah. Not long after I posted my UV LEDs, got hit up on how I did it. Same goes for my carbon fiber interior trim. Got all kinds of PMs on how I got them and how much it costs. I do what I want to do. And if others chime in show interest in doing something similar, it's that much cooler and am more than happy to assist. Like my HID-lights setup.

Why don't you have some consideration for the deer that walks out in front of you that you won't be able to see in time because of your crappy factory lighting setup?

I have to agree with dragonrage - there is a right way and a wrong way to do HID lighting. The right way is to install proper HID projectors. Those inexpensive kits consisting of bulbs and ballast are definitely the wrong way. No matter how you aim them, they still cause glare because the beam isn't cut off and shaped properly.

Saying you've never been flashed by other drivers is like saying deer whistles must work because you've never hit a deer. My UFO whistles must work because I've never been abducted by aliens. I almost never flash another driver because I figure why should both of us be blinded? I just mutter "*******" under my breath and try to focus on the road to the right until they pass.

Other stupid things: asking how else to avoid deer without high power lighting (how often do you come across deer compared to other cars? - just don't overdrive your lights and use high beams when appropriate), converting fog lights to high power (fog lights are designed to provide low, flat lighting in front of the car to facilitate seeing the lines and edge of the road - high power is unnecessary), and thinking that higher color temperature is better (light towards the blue end of the spectrum is less effective and produces more glare).

But the really stupid thing is saying "I don't care about other drivers as long as I can have my glaringly bright lights." Maybe we'll be lucky and they will end up in a ditch after being blinded by someone with the same attitude and even brighter lights.

Many people remark on how much better their lighting is because of the way it lights up the area in front of their car. This is a fallacy - good lighting doesn't light up directly in front of the car any more than absolutely necessary. Too much light close to the car means less is going down the road where it's supposed to and also affects the driver's night vision - further reducing effective lighting.

Alas! No pics yet. Still trying to figure out how exactly I'm gonna do this, without taking off the front bumper.

Aimed down adequately, they're no brighter than Silverstars, or HID-equipped SUVs, with their headlights that are a good 12-24" above the height of other cars' headlights on the road - right at the drivers' eye level.

I just mutter "*******" under my breath and try to focus on the road to the right until they pass.
Funny, I do the same thing when I go by a car with it's high beams on. Hmm, could it be because they can't see with their stock halogen lights?!
