weird blinker problem
This started happening about 2 weeks ago. I know it'll flash abnormally in the cluster is a bulb is out or is a flasher is messed up. But whats throwin me is everything seems to work fine outside the car blinker wise.
I'm starting to think maybe its the contacts inside the column wearing out but I dont really wanna pull my airbag out just to check.
Any ideas? Anyone else ever had this happen?
I'd guess your flasher is just going bad. The stock flashers are thermal (1909 Model T technology.) and can behave strangely when they start to go out.
I know no bulbs are burnt out & I know the dash & outside lights are not longer blinking at the same speed like normal. So I'm guessing it's gonna be the stupid flasher. I guess thats about right. Car is over 10yrs old & has 150x miles on the clock. Guess its about time to start replacing those little things, LOL.
The dash indicator light wiring is spliced into the front turn signal wires going from the T/S switch to the DRL module. This is downstream from the flasher so whatever flashing power the front signals are getting is also going to the dash.
The turn signal flasher is located under the dash on the knee bolster bracket just above the DLC (data link connector). You don't need to take anything off to get to it either.
This same thing happened to me and it was my flasher that was bad.
If it's not your flasher, then it could be some other excessive resistance somewhere in the circuit most likely at the bulb sockets. Check and clean all the sockets and apply a small amount of di-electric grease to prevent any corrosion (and excessive resistance) from building up. This can also cause the erratic flashing you are talking about.
Hope this helps.
