Default weird blinker problem

Ok guys, I need some trouble shooting help. Something weird is goin on with my blinkers, but only in the cluster. No bulbs are burnt out & all lights blink like normal outside the car. But on my cluster sometimes it'll flash twice really quick & then one slow flash. Other times it'll either blink fast or slow but it's never consistant.

This started happening about 2 weeks ago. I know it'll flash abnormally in the cluster is a bulb is out or is a flasher is messed up. But whats throwin me is everything seems to work fine outside the car blinker wise.

I'm starting to think maybe its the contacts inside the column wearing out but I dont really wanna pull my airbag out just to check.

Any ideas? Anyone else ever had this happen?

The lights on the dash blink at the same time as the ones outside the car. Are you saying your's don't do that?

I'd guess your flasher is just going bad. The stock flashers are thermal (1909 Model T technology.) and can behave strangely when they start to go out.

yeah it's most likely the flasher or a burnt out bulb. could also be low on this

LOL, stop tryin to push your blinker fluid on me sir.

I know no bulbs are burnt out & I know the dash & outside lights are not longer blinking at the same speed like normal. So I'm guessing it's gonna be the stupid flasher. I guess thats about right. Car is over 10yrs old & has 150x miles on the clock. Guess its about time to start replacing those little things, LOL.

No, wssix99 is correct - it's not possible for the dash indicators to flash differently than the outside lights unless it's a loose connection or bad bulbs in the cluster. A failing flasher would not cause that problem.

The dash indicator light wiring is spliced into the front turn signal wires going from the T/S switch to the DRL module. This is downstream from the flasher so whatever flashing power the front signals are getting is also going to the dash.

Well, I'm lost then cause I know for a fact none of my exterior lights are out. The only ones I have problems with are the front turn signals when its raining alot outside. They let some water in & the bulb sockets are corroded some. But it always works fine after putting in a new bulb.

Here is a quick check you can do. Turn your Hazard flashers on. Do they operate properly? (steady rythmic blinks) If they work fine and your trun signals are still not working right, then it is most likely your signal flasher.
The turn signal flasher is located under the dash on the knee bolster bracket just above the DLC (data link connector). You don't need to take anything off to get to it either.
This same thing happened to me and it was my flasher that was bad.
If it's not your flasher, then it could be some other excessive resistance somewhere in the circuit most likely at the bulb sockets. Check and clean all the sockets and apply a small amount of di-electric grease to prevent any corrosion (and excessive resistance) from building up. This can also cause the erratic flashing you are talking about.
Hope this helps.

The lenses and sockets MUST be dry. If they get wet, it will blow out or destroy the bulb. There should be a gasket on the socket to keep everything dry. If its in the right place, you probably have a cracked lens. Just press on the front of the lens and see if you get any crack separation.

Its the flasher goin out guys. And my lenses are all cracked to hell. I need new housings & sockets. I'll be grabbing a set real soon too. But after some more testing it was found to be the flasher.

You might use some lens repair tape over the cracks as a temporary solution to the water infiltration, while you wait for new lenses.
