IMO speakers would still sound good off headunit

monsoon amp powers EVERYTHING

you would just wire to either set of wires if u were bypassing amp it dont matter, cause u will just cut them at the amp and route the signal down them

how would I wire my speakers if I ran the wires right off the head unit? Do I take both positives and both negatives to each terminal on the coaxial speakers?

What Would happen if I took both of the positive wires coming from the factory harness and put them together and hooked them up to the positive on the speaker and the same with the negative? I am confused on how to wire everything up individually.

what do you mean both sets of wires, u run speaker wire from the speaker output behind the headunit for the front left speaker (leave the gm harness side unhooked) to the speaker in the door and connect it

same with right

Well I am just gonna wire up my speakers directly off the head unit and bypass the factory amp all together. I got my monoblock amp for my sub today. It is a JL Audio J2 500.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_136J250...-1.html?tp=115

This should sound pretty good paired with my Alpine 10" type R shouldn't it?

All I have to get now is my stealth box.....

he is referring to the factory speaker wires. i just rewired my camaro a few weeks ago with all alpine type r speakers. i got rid of the monsoon crap and replaced everything with alpine. i also got rid of all the factory speaker wires. if you want sound quality out of the speakers then run new wire with 14ga wire. if you have any questions pm me

Thanks a lot! I have a couple of questions......

If you are running say a 400W, 4 Channel amp, and you have more than 4 speakers, how do you supply power to the other 2 speakers?

Also, When you have component speakers, do you have to run 4 wires to them (both a positive and a negative for the tweeter and mid bass)? If so, where do you get the other seat of power and ground wires if you are running it off the head unit or a 4 channel amp? Thanks

Well I got my Type R coax front door speakers in today. I ran them directly off the head unit vs. running them thrue the monsoon amp.... They sound pretty good. If I were to amplify them how much better/clearer would they sound? They are suppose to be 100W RMS speakers. Every 4 channel amp I see only puts out 100RMS at 2ohms. The most I saw at 4 ohms was 80 amp per channel (4 channel). What do you guys reccomend?

By the way I plan on getting type r components for the front and then I am going to mount the coaxials in the back seat. I will do away with the very rear speakers. I will also be running a 10" type R sub in a stealth box being pushed by a JL 500w RMS mono amp.

It will sound 10X better. And 80 RMS X4 @ 4 ohms is plenty. 50 would be fine aswell. Anything will sound better than the headunit.

So even at the same wattage the speakers will sound waaaay better being powered by the amp?

Every amp Ive looked at is 4 channel by 80w @ 4ohm. the 4x100's are at 2 ohms which I cant run my speakers at....

99.9% of HUs only put out about 15w rms. That is nothing compared to just about any external 4 ch amp. Even getting a 50X4 @ 4 ohm amp is over 3X the power, and will give you a much better sound. And if your HU doesn't have any crossovers, which alot don't, the amp will. That alone is a huge difference depending on what you listen to and how you want your music.

What's the difference between a sub with a dual 2 ohm voice over coil vs. a sub with a dual 4 ohm voice over coil?

That is the difference. You need to decide how many speakers/woofers you want to use and match up the impedance to the amp. Tell me what you want and Ill tell you what to look for and why.

have you looked at any of the Alpine PDX amps? they all pair up nicely with the speakers and subs. i currently have a PDX 4X150 going to my Alpine Type X speakers and they sound pretty awesome. same deal with my subs. 2 type x 12s powered by a PDX 1X1000 each. they are compact amps that are easily hidden and still give you the power you are looking for with the setup you have

Just look for an amp that will do at least 50W RMS X 4 @ 4 ohms.

They might be good little amps, but they are also very expensive and not necessary or practical in this situaltion. They do sound very nice, though!
