problem with amp and sub! need help
problem with amp and sub! need help i just installed a 400w amp to a alpine type r 10" sub. the amp gets 12vdc to it and the fuse is good but it does not put any power out to the sub. can anyone help?
Check rca's if power light is coming on. Also check your head unit to make sure you're sub pre-out is on. Easy way to check for bad rca's is to grab another set, plug them into the back of the radio, throw them across the seat, plug em in and see if it works then. If it does, replace rca's.
Check impedance on the sub. If you don't get any reading at all pullt the sub out the box and make sure everything is connected properly. Check the output of the amplifier, to do this set your meter to ac voltage, see if there is any change in the reading as volume increases and bass lines go in and out. Could be something as simple as a lead jumping off the terminal cup if you're getting output from the amp.

What are you using for a ground? I had the same problem, amp got 12v, turned on, etc. but the ground wasn't good enough and was choking the amp. Sanding the paint off the rear seatbelt mount that I was using for my ground cured the issue.
