did you really read the first post in this thread?

of course they are underpowered being run directly from the head unit, but that's how the stock monsoon system works, so that's how you re-hook it all up for it to sound right.

So basically I can get 4 ohm speakers, hook them up to the wires that are already running to the monsoon amp, and they will sound ok? Some people say that 4 ohm speakers on a 2 ohm unit will give you half power. Some say it won't.

it depends entirely on the speaker. i wouldn't suggest just grabbing any 4 ohm speaker and slapping it on, cause it may sound horrible. the alpine's sound pretty good at 2 ohms though.

Technicaly that is true... however just because you have less power if youre using better quality components (IE more efficent speakers) you dont nessicarily lose sound quality.

That makes sense.

Tuffluck - I might look into the Alpine speakers. I really want to keep the factory look to my car. I don't think a single DIN unit looks all that great in a Camaro. I also don't want to be a target to theft.

ya, they are a good replacement. i personally wouldn't go out and buy them if my stock speakers were still good, just because it's more of a pain than not; and the end product will not be worth the extra money, time, and effort when your stock speakers worked fine. both my front speakers were blown though, and spending money on more monsoon speakers that would blow in due time seemed ridiculous to me. the alpine's best feature is their ability to outlast the monsoon speakers by a long shot. otherwise, if your stock speakers are fine, i'd just not mess with them.

Yep, I have probably 3 stock Monsoon speakers blown right now, so this sounds like a good idea.

Ya, it looks like the 4406 is getting harder to find at a good price. They have them on sale at sounddomain for $45 each. I've been watching them for about a month and they've only been in stock a couple of days over that time. I see on the rockford web page they changed the numbering scheme and no longer have a 6.5 subwoofer that I can see.

I have a question though. I have some old pioneer speakers from a couple of years back that I had in my old camaro, is there any way to tell from the specs if they will work well in this application?

"Does anyone else make a 6.5" midbass sub?"

Kenwood has a 6.5" that shows its good for free air use. You might want to look at it. I got in on the RFP-4406's so I cannot give you a review on it. but it looked like it might work.

I did find a place in CA that sells the RFP4406, but the total came to just shy of $200 with shipping. I asked them to cancel the order.

Are they really worth almost $200?

I put the order through, but they won't cancel it. I guess I am stuck. I hope I like the speakers!

Maybe I should hold onto them and sell them in a few months when noone has them.

you'll never get that much for them more than likely, even though their sales will become extinct. $200 is ridiculous. they are only $40 speakers.

Well have read this long ago & been wanting to do it.
Finally had a nice day up here in Chi-town, to take the car out & rip it apart.
I got the alpine's at C/city & they where on sale $80.
I am very happy with the results, night & day difference it definately thumps now.
I got 4406's coming too, cannot wait to insall them as well.
This is the perfect set-up for me I dont want to spend big bucks on the stereo set-up I'm putting big bucks in the motor/drivetrain.
But now I can hear over the exhaust at 85!
Rogue Leader & tuffluck thanks for the R & D this is some good $h!t.

Default Found A Replacement For The Hatch Speakers

Pioneer TS-G1017 4" speakers. they can be purchased at your local pep boys. these are a direct replacement, and sound GREAT compared to the stock pieces of junk in the hatch. they are about $45 after taxes. pep boys is trying to stop carrying them, so i doubt there are many left. get them while you can, especially if your hatch speakers are busted. i was able to turn my bass WAY up with these new speakers in. before, with the bass up, the hatch speakers would make me quickly turn down the bass they sounded so bad.
