Steering Wheel Adapter
#21
I received my new Kenwood KDC-X994 today and decided to wire things up. I couldn't get it to to work, but I only tried a few times. 1995-02 Pontiac is listed in the booklet as compatible, so I will check my wires and retry tomorrow.
I gave up and decided to get drunk and watch Top Gear.
The Kenwood and new CDT CL-62 CFs up front are definitely a huge upgrade from stock. I didn't even mess with the equalizer yet.

Well, hopefully I have mine wired correctly. My stupid HU is now scheduled to be here Monday, which of course will be at night. I despise UPS greatly.
It should work though. I've read several reviews regarding this interface specifically installed on 4th gens.

I'll report back tonight after trying some more.

Looking at the directions online now and I'm pretty sure I missed this step:
"Connect the Orange/Green wire of the ASWC to pin 14 of the vehicle. Below is a picture of what the connector in the vehicle looks like:"

Well, keep an eye out. There's two wires that are similar... An orange w/ green stripe, and a green w/ orange stripe. At a quick glance they almost look the same.

Seek and volume work as should and I think the rest are dependent on the head unit. When I press mute it turns it very low and it says ATT on my deck, but it is not muted (a Kenwood feature?). When I press AM/FM it pauses the song (I was using a USB drive). When I pressed PLAY it changed the source.

Kenwood head units don't have a Mute capability as such. They "Attenuate" the sound level - reduce it to a fraction of its original level. That means the mute button is doing the closest thing to muting that Kenwood provides.

I used the PAC SWI on my Sony HU. Everything works fine except when I try to use the seek buttons on the iPod input it advances to the next playlist instead of the next track on the same playlist.
Some of the buttons on it are broken anyway and I'm looking at the Kenwood KDC-BT945U as a possible upgrade.

Has anybody place the PAC SWI-PS on a 97 trans am? The instructions are listed for an 89 firebird. Will these instructions still work on a 97? Do I have to use all those resistors? THe instructions are little unclear. Thanks

The 97 uses exactly the same connections as a 98-02. No resistors are necessary.

The Monsoon "system" is not an amplified system for purposes of this adapter. It uses an ordinary Delco head unit just like those in any other GM vehicle of the time. Amplified systems refers to things like Bose and Infinity which are integrated systems where the head unit won't work without the specific amplifier... although I have no idea what amplified or not would have to do with a wired remote control.
