Well, I like old school amps, too... I've got an a/d/s 830x 8-channel amp to install after I get around to refurbishing it (new RCA jacks, new potentiometers). PPI is great. I'm running a new-school MB Quart in the meantime and I don't like it much because it runs extremely hot and draws a lot of power even at low volume levels (hence the heat).

If I were to buy a new amp right now for a decent price, I'd probably pick up a Rockford Fosgate. I don't like their subs but I do like their amps.

think im leaning this way as all of my stuff is alpine and ive been really happy with them so far. Do i need an amp which matches the RMS of the components exactly?

Ok what do you guys think of me going with this one....

http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/pdx-f4/

only complaints seem to be that it doesnt do that well powering subs but remember i have a seperate monoblock for those

personally
I think those Alpine amps are not worth 50.00
they had a real bad issue with noise(google pdx noise floor) but they seem to have fixed that
ARC
Kenwood
RE Audio
mini amps are alot better than the Alpine

Buy this:

MB Quart Q4.80 4-Channel Class AB Car Amplifier
RMS Power Rating:
4 ohms: 80 watts x 4 chan.
2 ohms: 120 watts x 4 chan.
Bridged, 4 ohms: 240 watts x 2 chan.

List Price is $449.99, but if you shop around don't be surprised to find it for $159.99.

Yeah, PDX amps have had a lot of problems. I don't really recommend Alpine for pretty much anything. I'm not sure I'd take Kenwood over them, but ARC amps are great.

As for that MB Quart, I was recommending them for a bit and bought a Q series myself, but I haven't been happy with them. My Planet Audio P1250D ~10yo cheapass 1250WRMS subwoofer amplifier puts out a good bit more than the ONX1500D. My Q runs at a million degrees.

ARC, Audison, Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, Boston Acoustics... plenty of brands I'd take over Alpine, Kenwood, and MBQ. Those aren't even close to all of them.

But I'd probably go and pick an old school amp (PPI, Linear Power, a/d/s, etc.) from Ebay on the cheap if I were you.

If you want Alpine then buy Alpine but it's a fact that PDX amps have been problematic. I wouldn't recommend you blindly follow a brand without knowing the competition, though. The only reason most people like Alpine is because they are cheap and Best Buy carries them. They are the Nickelback of car audio - and I do mean that as an insult (to them). You see/hear them everywhere, but that doesn't make them good!

Alpine is around, and have remained popular, because of the "fame and prestige" they garnered during the '80s when they came stock in Lamborghini's.
Has nothing to do with Best Buy.

99% of the people buying their crap will have absolutely no idea of what you just said.
