Xmas Lights

How can I hook up Christmas lights to my car so that they turn on and off with the car?

If you go to most countries south of the US or to Southeast Asia, you should be able to find someone who can do a professional installation for you.

but yes, i thought it would be hilarious to throw some christmas lights on the bird for the holidays

The replies poking fun are partly because of the concept of Christmas lights on your car and partly because the question itself indicates little knowledge of electrical basics. If you are unsure of how to wire an ignition controlled circuit (for lights or any other accessory) then perhaps you would be best to have somebody else do it for you.

Just in case you were thinking of using standard household lights - you can't. At least not without installing an inverter in your car to provide 120V alternating current. You can find 12V Christmas light strings at hobby shops and even WalMart.

Can we table this thread until after Thanksgiving? This is way too early. Turkey changes everything. After the post-meal sickness and tryptophan coma, no one wants to do any projects on the car for at least a month.
