Default Kenwood kdc-x994 is it any good? fit?

I have a Alpine cda-9887 in a HUmount and I love it except I can't use my Pandora through an AUX because it wasn't supported even through the Alpine cable. I have been looking at this Kenwood kdc-x994 but wonder how it will compare sq wise? Also how does it fit in the HUmount? Is it flush? Any pictures?

This unit is awesome and has tons of features. Also, the BlueTooth works very well and the fitment with the HUmount is nice. You have to remove the plastic trim bezel from the HU before you install it but it looks nice. Here are some pics of my install (sorry for the grainy iphone pics).

So it fits nice and flush without it sticking out at all from the mount?

Yes, the only thing that sticks out is the faceplate of the HU. It is a tight fit if you have RCA cables plugged in the back going to an amp or sub amp. What I did was got some 90/angle RCA plugs to angle the rca cables down.

How much does the faceplate extend out?

The thickness of the faceplate, maybe a bit less. Why are you so worried as pretty much all aftermarket HU's do and won't mount exactly flush with the HUmount or any other mount?

If you take the time to properly install the HU, specifically by bending back the stock rear mounting bracket and bundling the harness, it should mount pretty much flat, like the examples in this thread:

If you really want to use Pandora, I would seriously take a look at the Alpine IDA-X305S. It was specifically designed with that in mind.

I'm worried because my Alpine 9887 does fit flush with the HUmount, I like the specs and look of the Kenwood but read somewhere that it sticks way out. That media Alpine looks good but I don't own an iPhone, I have a Droid x

The specs for the KDC-X994 and my KDC-MP345U are the same:

Width 182(mm) 7-3/16(in)
Height 53(mm) 2-1/16(in)
Depth 158(mm) 6-1/4(in)

Mine doesn't stick out more than any other HU.

And for the Alpine CDA-9887:

Chassis Size (W x H x D) mm: 178mm x 50mm x 160mm
Chassis Size (W x H x D) in: 7'' x 2'' x 6-1/4''
Nose Piece Size (W x H x D) mm: 170mm x 46mm x 24mm
Nose Piece Size (W x H x D) in: 6-3/4'' x 1-13/16'' x 15/16''

So unless I'm missing something, the Alpine is actually longer than the Kenwood, so I don't think you'll have any problem based on the numbers.

This is the HU I am looking at getting. Nice to know it looks nice with the HUMount. I've bought Alpines and Pioneer HUs in the past and have been pleased with them. This is the first Kenwood product I might purchase. Is the sound good?

EDIT: Nevermind, found DAVE00's other thread when it was installed. Answered all my questions. I think I'm about to order this HU.

Yup, the HU is wonderful and I really love the features and sound quality. Only wish I could save the memory easier as I keep having to redo the setup due to disconnecting my battery so much lately for work on the car - LOL. Oh well. You'll love it.
