I can't say that I've ever heard of that kind of problem but I quit buying CD's and just starting transfering all my songs over to my iPhone and whatever else I want, I just buy them from iTunes.

The bluer, the better. Sony CD-R Audios work for me,
some others brands have, but any pale green cheapo,
forget it. Search here for posts, I know others have
said what did & didn't work for them.

You're not using CD-RWs, are you? Those can cause issues in older HU's. Also, you MUST burn them as WAV CDs with a factory HU, NOT MP3 cd's. That might be your problem as well.

I burn all my changer CDs from MP3 files and have had no issues (until
the changer dies, recently - but the CDs played fine for years). The only
problem I have had, is the choice of dye. Which of course they tell you
nothing about, although if you can find any mention of "archival life"
or such, that's a better dye. Basically if they're not proud of it, it's
a crap shoot.
