ASP plulley with subs/amp??? I have a Stealthbox with a JL 10" subwoofer and a 400 watt amp in my 99 Z28. I wanna buy an ASP pulley. I was told once that i couldnt have both because my alternator couldnt handle the audio and the pulley. Is this true?? If so, what do I do?? Stronger alternator?? Help me out

Interested too, as I've also got a ASP, and about to install an amp. Not sure what the wattage is on it yet, but know it's atleast 400 watts, probably more. I've had charging problems in the past due to low idle with my cam. I prefer not to bump my idle up too much because I like the lope of the cam at lower idle. Guess time will tell.
I am using an ASP pulley and was fine with my amps(USX 800D, USX 4080) until about 3 months of use then I started having charging issues. My lights would flicker and volt gauge on the dash would wander, and dash would dim. I plan on a getting a better alternator as soon as funds allow as I plan on keeping the pulley for the time being.

No issues here, with both ASP Pulley. I have a JL 6450 amp and JL w010 sub. Although my amp keeps overheating and think that is just I got a bad one.

They both say Power cable 8 AWG power is orange, ground is brown. Ground is screwed into the trunk metal, power goes to the battery pos terminal with a huge @$$ fuse.

Can't believe that a JL "certified" installer would do something like that.
Clearly states:
Speaker output connections:
accept up to 8 AWG wire
+12V and Ground connections:
accept up to 4 AWG wire

Well unfortuantly not every shop is good. Ive seen plenty of shops that sell awesome equipment and cant install worth a crap. Ive seen a few shops that sell cheap stuff but got amazing installers, but those are pretty rare.

I would be very careful about going with a too powerful of a system and using the ASP pulley. You would probably kill your alternator after a couple of months.
If you kept it under 500W, you should be ok. I would also invest in a CAP.

Yah, I have the feeling that after the install I had to re-wire evertything. My 8 year old son could have done a better job. and I am not kidding. They blew out 1 serious tuner thanks to running the wire across the floor boards next to the cats that melted the antenna wires. Sorry for hijacking the thread but at least I now know whats happening.
