Default Car PC Question

I have anold laptop computer that the screen broke on. I just purchased a new one. I was looking at taking the old laptop and putting it in the Camaro and making a car pc with it. What will I all need. Would a touch screen DVD double din work for the screen and disk drive or no. I have no idea how to go about doing this as I have never really dealt with the electronics with the exception of replacing the speakers to MA audio all around so any help in the right direction would be appreciated. Tips tricks advise or recommendedequipment please. Thanks.

Default Short answer no

Get a 7-8" touch screen from ehay.
No sense in getting a double din and a car computer since you ll be able to do all the things either way.

As an IT guy I can understand what your trying to do. the interface on the laptop to the screen isn't like the one you find on a typical desktop. It's a flat ribbon cable the provides both the power and the information to be displayed on the monitor. So:

1. you will want to use the external video port if possible.
2. use a wireless keyboard and mouse in input data.
3. look into an OS specifically designed for touch input
4. most laptops run on around 19v DC, you will need to use the stock AC adapter and a good size DC to AC converter or get a custom DC power supply made.

By the time you put in all the time it might be easier to get a in car PC pre-made.

Either way good luck to you and show us some picks when its done.

we can make a bezel to fit your carpc screen
we just did another for a C5 Corvette
here is a pic of that one
the customer sent me the screen to make sure it fit perfectly. This screen was just a slight amount larger than the normal double din.
So it is always best to have the screen

sending your Camaro bezel to us with the screen we will modify it to fit and send it back for 99.99

Dont do it, its a pain more trouble than it's worth. Remember that the Pc uses power when it's sleep, I had couple of times where the computer didn't wake up and I had to go to my trunk to reset it....
