Default speaker issues???

Does anyone know if anyone makes the backing that goes behind the speakers in the doors in a camaro? I have a 99 SS and its like cardboard or something that water can seep down into and basically rots it out. does n e one know where I can get this part at? or does anyone have a mock up or something they have used?? your door speakers mount to them and when its rotted its a pia to get it mounted to it otherwise.
let me know thanks

At least in the mid-90s cars, the factory installed a semi-circular "baffle", made out of plastic, which would deflect any water off the speaker, if it came down through the upper window channel. If your car is missing these, you can purchase a plastic foam type of "enclosure" from the aftermarket car stereo houses. These are made by an outfit called 'XTC'.

Would it be safe to assume that you're not the original owner of your car? In my case, I am, it's a '96, and I can assure you that there's no "cardboard" used anywhere in my doors.

Just for reference, in my car, this plastic baffle I'm referring to is attached to the door with 4-5 sheet metal screws, and extends into the door by about 2.5-3". The speaker attaches to the door with 4 screws that go through the perimeter of the speaker, through this baffle, and into the door frame.

The "big hole" you're referring to should be approximately 5.75-6" in diameter, unless somebody hacked the door, in an effort to install something larger than the OE 6.75" speakers.....

There's an ongoing discussion in this section of the website, and it's entitled CDT from KEE Speakers Installation, or something like that......

On the first page of this discussion, there are a few pretty good pictures of what an aftermarket speaker looks like, in the stock location. In one of the pics, you can see the plastic baffle I'm referring to.

I suggest you take a look there.

I sent him several links to them on eBay but if a member has a set on here please contact him so he can get a set.
I have one mount but I use it to test fitment of speakers I use in our cars to make sure they fit properly. 2 sets of Firebird and 1 Camaro mount.

The rears just mount to the sheet metal, using speed clips, or whatever you call those threaded "thingies"...
