So... LEDs in dash and HUMount problem?

So... LEDs in dash and HUMount problem?

I just finished putting red LED's (WLED-x5 from superbrightleds) behind my gauges and at first they worked brilliantly. Then, I stopped for gas, got back in the car and.... nothing. Odometer still lights up, no gauges. Gauges still function, just no light. Then, the next morning, my HUmount "Trans Am" is no longer working. WTF? The HUmount has been working flawlessly ever since I put it in over 6 months ago.

I highly doubt it is a loose connection problem as I solder all my wire together. Could it be that the LED's and HUmount were drawing too much power and overloaded the switched voltage wire? I thought LEDs drew less power than the incandescent bulbs that make up the stock gauge lighting?

The LED's would not overload your system. Did you check the fuses and also make sure that you did not turn down your dimmer switch by accident.

Dimmer switch was the first thing I thought of, but sadly, no that's not the problem. I'll check the fuses, dunno why I didn't think of that. Mostly I was just so pissed I didn't care to try and diagnose it, haha.

So, the dimmer switch fuse (5 Amp) was blown. I put another fuse in there and it blew immediately. Put another, same story. Put a 10 amp fuse in and heard a crackling sound behind the gauges and so I immediately turned it off again.

Must be some kind of short?
What do you guys think?

yes something is wrong check the connection back the to make sure there are no bent pins. You did not switch out your gauge cluster did you? just the bulbs right.

Yeah, just the bulbs. I also changed the odometer color, but it is working great. I'm not gonna take the cluster back out until my new gauge face comes in tho. Should be a couple more days yet.
