Default need help wiring my cigarette lighter

ok when i bought my car the previous owner had cut out the center section of my console which had the cubby hole and the cigarette lighter so i got another upper console the other day and noticed that i didnt have the 3 pin connector needed to plug into the back of the cig lighter, instead i had an auxilary port that he had added. So i went and got another connector to plug into the back of the lighter and i noticed that the connector i got had 3 wires coming off of it but i only have two wires ( a black one and an orange one) connecting to the aux port that he put in, i also noticed a random red wire that had been cut. So im wondering how do i hook this up, do i just need the two wires to be connected to the connector or does the red wire also go to it. Below is a pic of the aux port and the two wires going to it, you can also see the red wire which is hanging to the side

The lighter socket only needs two wires - power and ground. The third wire is probably power for lighting (connected to dash lights).

Yes, it does matter. You must have battery (constant) power going to the center pin on the back of the lighter socket and ground going to the outer shell.

o ok so basically i just run the orange wire to the center pin and the black ground wire to one of the other pins and just dont even worry about the wire for the other pin thats left...sounds easy enough, thanks for the help

Well I wired it up and the cig lighter works however now I noticed that when I plug in anything else like a phone charger the charger will blow out..I also noticed my other charging port has the ground going to the center pin and the power going to the outer pin so since I have it the other way could that be the reason it is blowing chargers out?

Cigarette lighter sockets and power ports always have positive on the center post and negative on the outer shell. If you have one connected one way and the other connected in reverse on the same circuit, you create a short whenever something gets plugged in.
