Default Z28 Fog Lights??

I put the Sylvania ZXE bulbs in my headlights and they look great but now my Fog Lights look ugly yellow. I've seenposts on Firebird fogs but nothing on Camaro Fog Lights. I want to make them whiter. My car now reminds me of a really hot chick with yellow teeth. Any solutions?

I'm guessing you are talking about the 98 Z28 in your sig. If so, It has projector fog lights and you can get a 35watt HID kit for them. Don't go higher wattage because it will damage the chrome in those small projectors ruining output.

I you want to stay with Halogen bulbs and aren't as concerned with them not being as bright as their competitors, look for tinted/coated bulbs. Bulbs with a bluish tint/coating tend to produce a whiter light but the tint/coating blocks some light and they won't be as bright as non-coated bulbs.

Sylvania may make some ZXE bulbs in the Camaro stock 894 size. I think they used to make some Silverstar 894 bulbs. Sylvania's website no longer lists them in that size though.

Thanx for the reply! I'm not too concerned about how bright they are because my headlights are Real Nice! I'm more concerned about getting the color of the light to match better.

^ technically, the fogs are supposed to be yellow, but we all know that just doesn't look very good.

I've got ZXE Bulbs in all 3 on my truck.. bright as FAK!! Highs, Lows and fogs! I don't care for my Colorado, but god that has to be the best set of headlights I've ever had!

I believe you can use the 880 in the fogs.

Isn't 880 lower wattage than 894?

Technically...fog lights are used in dense fog where regular head lights are too bright and reflect off the moisture in the air making it nearly impossible to see. This is where Fog Lights come into play, you turn off your regular headlights and turn on the fog lights that are closer to the ground and don't reflect the moisture in the air making it easier to see. I remember my 64 SS had them and in Northern NJ I used the quiet often. Now having babbled all of that out, we cannot turn off our regular headlights and keep our fog lights on so the question is. Do we really have fog lights or do we have lights to make our cars look "Cooler"?

Actually, you can run the fog lights with just the parking lights on (no headlights). Even still, the factory fog lights are more for decoration than function - some bulb catalogs even list the 880/881 bulbs as "auto toy".

The bulbs are available in three wattages:
800/881 = 27W = 43CP
893/894 = 37W = 75CP
885/886 = 50W = 100CP

The 880, 885 and 893 are straight connectors, the others are right angle connectors. There have been numerous reports of the 50W bulbs melting the plastic housing but I ran the 37W bulbs for years without any problem. The difference from the stock 27W bulbs isn't dramatic but it is noticeable.

As soon as the sun goes down my headlights come on automatically. So at night when i would need to run the fog lights only there is no way for me shut of the headlights without going in and disable some factory spec. Is this correct?

Yes, on Camaros the auto-headlights would prevent using only the fog lights after dark (US Firebirds don't have auto-headlights). It's easy to bypass the automatic function by simply shorting the two sensor wires together making the system think it's daylight all the time.

If you pull the parking brake handle up one notch -Not enough to set brake but enough to turn on parking brake light- before you start the car, the headlights will work with the switch instead of automatically

Yes that is True.....but.....i guess my point is that they were never meant to be a True Fog Light. They were made for Appearance Purposes.

And so they could charge you several hundred dollars for a $100 worth of lights and wires

But ya, they do look cool! I'm glad I have them anyways...

I bought a set of Wizard UltraWhite 893 bulbs from Summit. They were $16 shipped and the color is a Pretty good match. Now to see how long they will last. Anybody used these?
