I'm not sure that those plastic displays will hold water. I don't know where to get a hold of one but expect that they would be cheap and may even have holes in the bottom.
Maybe you could retrofit an actual battery, since its designed to hold fluid? This would probably be messy (and hazardous) but neutralizing all the acid inside might be a fun chemistry experiment?
Why not an aftermarket bottle specifically for the purpose?
I'd contact some wholesale battery suppliers and auto parts suppliers. I think you should be able to come up with an older one that's not being used. I'd install a pump and bottle inside the fake battery instead of attempting to convert a real one or seal the display battery. Sounds like a fun project - good luck with the hunt!

Definitely not. It would be much better than a volcano and it could permanently blind everyone in attendance. This would be only for folks with advanced chemistry skills and equipment.
I think it would be cool in LSx conversion in an old car to get one of those empty batteries and put the computer in it. And wire loom all the wires tight so it looks real. Just a thought.
Very nice! You can make it look even more original/stock with an era-correct battery topper. I have one of these on the battery in my '71. I just attached it with velcro locking strips (it fits a Group 75-78 battery case):
