Default Sub in 2002 F Body?

Looking to put a subwoofer in my 2002 SS and needed some help with sizes.

I have two 12in JL W6s that I used to have in my BMW sitting here still, but looks like if I wanna put in a stealth box I am down to a single 10 in the Camaro.

I have never had subs in a hatchback car always had to drive them through the trunk and needed more to get it done.

I guess my question is what a single 10 in a hatch back is like. I used to have way to much in my BMWs with the 12s but I would rather have too much than not enough. I can always turn it down. Just dont wanna buy the 10 then be underwhelmed.

Also I have always stayed away from 10s as I like the sound of 12s more they seem to have alot more range than just SPL.

Just thought I would ask someone that has some experience with subs in this car. The car currently has the stock head unit and Boston Acoustics speakers. I will one day rip them out for some Focals but they are decent for now. Just need some bass haha.

I would guess that you probably won't be happy with a single 10. I had 2 Fosgate 15's, 2 L7 12's, and 1 Obsidian 18 in other vehicles. Went with a stealth box and tried to be happy but it just doesn't cut it with what I'm used to. I have a TC Sounds Epic 10 which is a pretty stout little sub. Does ok on the higher bass frequencies but as with just about any sub in an undersized sealed enclosure it is lacking on the lower end. Ordered an American Bass XFL 12 and am going to build a ported box for it. I would suggest using 1 or both the W6's you have now in a proper sized enclosure.

how important is a back seat to you?

140db with a pair of subs that cost me 220 and an amp that cost me 150 (these parts where brand new) I have since upgraded to a more powerful amp but still run these subs.

please excuse the half-*** job on the fiberglass work, it was my fist time working with stretching fleece.

Thats an interesting idea for a box. I already removed my back seats as they were useless with my Recaro seats in the car with the harnesses. Might look at fitting a box in that space.

I doubt the single 10 will cut it for you. Ive had a single 10 stealth, driver and passenger 10" stealth boxes and i wasnt satisfied with either. About 6 years ago i had a dual 12" subthump ttop box with kicker L5's and a 1500w kicker amp and it actually sounded pretty good for a relatively cheap build. If you dont want to give up the room in the back seat maybe check out a subthump hatch box or something similar.

If budget isn't an a problem look towards diamond digital subwoofers.
Real competition subwoofers but expect to pay.

is your car a hardtop or t-top? if it's hardtop, then you have plenty of room in the hatch area for a couple of 12's in a custom sub enclosure, and mount the amp(s) on the back wall of the hatch area, or in between the subs on the enclosure.

"Back in the day" and I'm talking early 90's when I was in college, I had 2 Kicker 12's in my hatchback and it thumped! Fast forward a few years and I'm out of college a few years and buy my '98 Z28 new and I went to the 10" stealthbox. I didn't think I'd be happy either, but I have to admit that I went with a sub that could handle more power than my 2 12's combined and went with an amp to push it with more power than I had pushing those 12's and here I am 16 years later and I'm still happy and impressed with how hard my single 10 performs in a stealthbox!

I've got 1 12" JL W6 in my 02 Trans Am WS6 and it's perfect. I've got a 250/1 pushing it.

Back in the day I had two 10" kicker solo barics in my 95 TA. Those little things KNOCKED lol. The enclosure was tiny as hell too.

For the price of a stealth box they sure make a good sub sound like ****!

I had 2 10" w6 on 2 500/1 in my RT Dakota in a slot ported box... it slammed for what it was(they came in stealth boxes for under your backseat of a gm truck) and they were twice as loud and deep in my custom box.

JL audio also makes a line called TMA ... junk subs but they make a box that covers you whole trunk for 2 12s... not sure if the w6 will fit in it or not. ..

Just put a JL microsub in my 02 Z28 and it's plenty. It has a built-in 500w amp and the box is 35 inches long. Those 2 8inch subs hit hard and I have them mounted on the shelf right behind the rear seats. Plus they have a quick disconnect so I can take them out in literally 30 seconds. This is the model:

JL Audio ACP208LG-W3v3 MicroSub
500-watt dual 8" powered subwoofer
