Default CDT 6.5" Sub install help

I just got a pair of CDT 6.5" subs from Kee Audio for the sail panel area. The problem I am running into is how to mount them in the sail panel area. A few years ago I had an audio company install my sound system and in the sail panel area were a pair of coaxial speakers for rear fill. They drilled into the car to mount them which is not what I want to do with these subs. There is nothing else on there except four large holes. No nut plates, no other holes, nothing.

Was there some sort of ring there that the stock speakers mounted/got drilled into and the audio company removed it and threw it away? Or is there some trick I am missing to mounting the CDT subs? I remember reading that these practically bolt right in.

Another concern is if I have enough space for the subs to move. I am worried that they will hit against the car or something. The sail panel speaker area is pretty shallow. Any help is appreciated as this is pretty much the last part of my stereo system overhaul. Thanks.

If you are seeing four square holes a about 1/4" across, then you need the screw clips. If you search on here for installs, you'll see them in their installs.

EDIT: I found the thread installing Bazooka Subs

Look up Keeaudio.com
There are CDT install instructions for F bodies. I did mine a while back. Wasn't too difficult.

Thanks everyone. I was hoping it was something stupid easy. I've messed with the front speakers plenty of times on my own but never the sail panel speakers and had no idea what was there stock. It did look like something was missing. I went to Lowes and got some screws and clips. Hopefully they will work. Thanks again for the help.

Update: Got the right screws and clips and I got one sub in. Now that I know exactly which ones to get, I'll make another trip to Lowes later to install the second sub. Question though. I don't have very much sound or bass coming from the sub. I'm sure it is a setting on my amp. The only thing I've done so far is put the filter to the rear on "LP" since it is just the CDT subs on the rear channels. I assume this is what I need to do.

Here is a pic I snapped of the amp. The only thing changed on it is the "Filter Mode" is switched to "LP" since the subs are on those channels now instead of the coaxials. Any inputs here to get the most out of the subs is appreciated. Thanks again.

Well, it was during the day now and I got to crank the volume up a bit. There is definitely an improvement in loudness and bass. I'm just curious if I can get more out of the subs or not. I have also been thinking that I may have to remove the HU and swap the RCA cables from the rear channels over to the subwoofer channels. Not sure if this will make a different but I do have some subwoofer specific settings I can mess with on the HU side.

The filters inside your radio could be filtering out all of the sub-level signal. Granted these are 6.5" subs so you could run quite a bit higher frequency than a 10" or a 12" but regardless.

Try setting your subs to teh sub output of the radio, leave the amp settings alone (for now) and see how it sounds then.

That is definitely what I want to try first. I don't want to mess with the amp because my front speakers sound excellent. I guess if anything fails I can break out the mono amp I had for my old subwoofer and run the 6.5s off of that. That is assuming that it still works.

Well swapping my RCAs from the rear channels on the HU to the sub channels seemed to have woken up the subs a bit. I can adjust dB levels from the HU. Hopefully this is ok sending the subwoofer signals through the amps rear channel. Either way, I'm glad I finally got my stereo project finished. Replaced damaged tweeter with a new set, routed 16 AWG speaker wire for all speakers, and secured my amp rack better. Now I just need to clean up the wire routing in the trunk area or at least hide it better.
