Default Gauge cluster question

Hi all. So I fiddled around with my gauges a lot over the past 2 weeks trying different gauge faces and such. With all this messing around I took the gauge needles off and pushed them back on a fair bit. Once I was finished the gauge motors seemed to be toast. None of my gauges work. They look like they are trying and move a little every couple of minutes. I already bought a new cluster cuz mine was tired looking anyway but what did I do wrong? Too much pushing on the needles?
Thanks!

Are you sure one of the faces isn't off-center? I could see that dragging each needle enough to keep them from moving.

I find it extremely unlikely that you burned out every one of my motors...

Also, are you sure you didn't push them on too tight and maybe they are rubbing?

Positive they aren't too tight. I barely pushed them on to test that theory

+ 1 Most of these shouldn't burn out. (They aren't motors...) If you push the needles on too far, they will jam up - this is a common thing.

Hm. Maybe I fucked up a connector removing it so many times. Could the central rod be jammed?

Actually they are. They're stepper motors which are brushless electric motors where the rotation is divided into equal segments and a series of pulses (usually a square wave signal) deflects the shaft to one of those segments as an indicator.

Just a little trivia (i.e. useless information).

I meant to say "some."

The last time I had my gauges out, some of the needles fell out of position and they stopped functioning, indicating to me that some were ohmmeters.

Either way, they shouldn't burn out. There isn't a lot of current there and either device should be able to take a good licking.
