Default Monsoon HU vs ??

I am amped to get a double din navi and I'm not sure which is the better unit. Kenwood or Pioneer. I'm looking for the unit that first best assimilates into the 4th gen where the antenna operates normally and so on. Just want to incorporate the radio into the stock amp setup. Second, reliability is key and third, the ease of use of the navigation. Any input on what worked for everyone? I want to spend under $900 on the HU. Thanks!

Either one will work fine with a Monsoon system (including power antenna) and will be reliable - both brands are very good. Pioneer has a slight edge in audio configuration and the best FM tuner on the market. Kenwood has the edge in ease of use, especially in navigation since they use Garmin as their navigation provider.

Thanks. Good to know. I asked initially because I read an installation where the power antenna went up as soon as the car was turned on whether or not you turn on the radio and I didn't want to have it hooked up that way. I want the antenna down when the radio is off. Are both Navis connected to satellite traffic because I was thinking of getting SiriusXM.

I think you'll find that both Pioneer and Kenwood head units raise the antenna whenever powered on regardless of audio source in use. Most head units work this way but there are a few exceptions on the market.

Most models don't come with SiriusXM built in but they are satellite ready, you just need to buy the external adapter and antenna.

That works for me. I just didn't want the antenna coming up all the time when I start the car. Too bad there's no in window antenna.

You can put a switch in the pink wire that tells the antenna to go up.
Switch Off (pink wire disconnected) = Antenna Down.
Switch On (pink wire connected) = Antenna Up.
I did that even before I replaced the headunit.
I mostly listen to satellite radio and don't need the FM antenna up.
I cut the wire on the car-side of the connector and extended the ends to a switch mounted in my ash tray.

^ This. I replaced the ash tray in my T/A with a switch panel. One to control the DRLs, the other for the power antenna. I mostly listened to music off a flash drive and didn't need the antenna running in circles for nothing.
