Default sail panel speakers

Is there a better option for sail panel speakers than OEM ? At this present time, I disconnected both. The door panel and rear hatch speakers are being used, along with, a JBL 600 watt amp powering 2 -12 inch sub woofers. Bass is superb. DNB, etc. However, when I have the sail panel speakers wired in, they rattle and ruin the tune.

The backseat speakers with the monsoon system are mid bass with no treble. I just ordered a set of JBL speakers for mine.

I'm confused, you are using the JBL speakers at the sail panel location ?

If so, how are you wiring it ?

My sails blew in my 99 TA. I replaced them with a set of the CDT HD-6MSUB DVCs. To be honest, I'm not sure the $200 price tag was totally worth it. IMO the sails just add some midrange bass that the subs miss. Whether that matters or not probably depends on what you listen to. If you like your rock and roll I'd get some solid sails, if you like your rap then I might skip em' or get a cheaper set like the Bazooka DVCs.

I had a pair of mb quart midrange speakers installed about 5 years ago but one is rattling now so I'm just gonna drop in the midrange jbls.

Ok. After further review, I spliced after marker kicker 6.5 sail panels speakers into the rear speakers, each side independently. The JBL amp powers one or 2 - 12 inch subwoofers.

Do you have a Monsoon system? This sounds like the classic cone tearing problem with the stock speakers.

If you are still using the stock amp for the speakers, you'll need a DVC speaker. (There should be more info in the stickies.) Your options are limited, but you do have fine options.

I've had Bazookas in for years and they have been great.

I have 2 TA's. The one I'm working on presently had an Alpine HU installed by the prior owner. The sail panel speaker wiring appears to have been abandoned. I spliced the rear speaker wiring, adding wiring for the sail panel speakers, which are 4 ohm kicker 6.5s. The bass is provided from the 12 inch subwoofers. My other TA has the Monsoon. I acquired a Pac Oem 1 or something like that, connects to the OEM Monsoon HU, but allows for RCA wiring output for an after market amp. I intend to use a JBL 600 amp with a 12 subwoofer. Overall, the Monsoon is " acceptable " by itself, but not good enough and " looks nice " if an OEM look is desired.

A lot of people will switch out the HU and keep the "Monsoon" amps.

I replaced my door and sail panels with JL C3 convertible components. Still waiting on my tax return, then it's Alpine PDT amp, wiring kit, and finished. Don't know if I'm going to replace the hatch speakers (mine are blown)

Hey WSSIX99..great write up!

Did you put the covers back on by the way.. cant quite make that out ?

Also I wondered why my plastic sail panel keeps moving around.. didn't realise there was a mod to stop that using a screw..

I cant quite see that sheet metal screw in your writeu up/pics of the mod..does it go through the speaker grill tabs into the metal underneath ?

The grilles pop right back on - just like stock.

This thread has all the details on the screw and the TSB behind the fix. (The screw does go through one of the tabs that hold on to the grille.) https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...-interior.html
