The caps is only a bandaid or a temp fix to your electrica issue. I would def upgrade my alt to a high output with that much wattage.

Definately an alternator for 2000 watts. A Cap is fine for a smaller system that may need to draw some current momentairily, but with 2000 watts on tap, you can pull quite a bit of current. I just got an H.O. alternator for my 1400 watt system from http://www.excessiveamperage.com/
The guy who runs it is friendly, and answered all my questions. His alternators "cut-on" at 900 RPM's unlike others that "cut-on" at a higher RPM (usually 1200-1500) I got a 200 amp direct replacement from him for $275, which isn't bad at all. He can also paint or chrome the case for you if you want. I recommend him if you need a HO alternator.
Here's a pic of the stock alt. and the 200 amp unit I got from Nathan side by side on my workbench:

Hey Snootch if I just got a underdrive pulley can I get one and be ok. I have a 1000 watt amp that I dont run at full power and its always been ok but now it dims the lights too much for me. I did get the overdrive pulley but it was messed up and ASP is looking at it right now. If they say its fine Ill just chunk the pulley and get an HO alt.

quite honestly, i would go with both an alternator and the capacitor....the cap will provide the amp with power quickly when it needs it, such as when the bass hits really hard, and store the energy when it's not using it so that it's always available for the amp to use. this will reduce strain on both the battery and the alternator, and will keep the bass level where it's supposed to be, instead of letting the bass volume "clip" because it doesn't have enough juice on demand.

but that's just me....if you're limited by a budget, i would definitely go with the alternator first.....the cap is more of a luxury than a necessity. you can still get by with some damn good sounding bass without it.

I would recommend against the use of an underdrive pulley when having a large system. Underdrive pulleys cause all accesories (including alt) to spin slower, robbing you of potential output from the alt.

if you intend to keep the underdrive pulley on, then i would highly recommend getting the highest rated alternator that you can find....if you do this, you should have enough power, even after the loss from the underdrive....just be aware that you will not be getting the full potential of the alt.

Sounds pretty much like stock, Although when I pulled up to MacDonalds in the drive thru the other day, I noticed the car "whistles" or has a little more of a high pitch sound than it did before. It's really hard to notice. With the "burble" from the exhaust it sounded pretty cool though!
