Default Audio SOS

The disk change in my 2001 Camaro ss stopped working last year now. My disk unit in my head unit **** the bed. Is there any way to get one or the other working or both. The aria I live in has **** for service for FM radio.

Unfortunately your very technical description of the problem doesn't allow for much diagnosis.

Is there an error code displayed on the head unit? The error codes are listed in the Monsoon FAQ sticky. Does the CD player in the HU work at all? Does it skip? Could using one of those cleaning CDs help? Does the player have power (i.e. can you insert and eject a disc)? Have you tried with a known good commercial (not burned) CD?

Does the changer accept discs and cycle through them? Can you see the disc/track information on the head unit? Is there an error code displayed when you switch to the changer? Can you eject the changer disc tray? Are the discs properly loaded with the label side down (this changer uses the discs upside down to what you would expect)?

So I cleaned the head unit and got it working. There are no error codes and the rear cd changer has power but no signal exchanger between it and the head unit. I hate how the aftermarket bezels look most of the time.

I agree! I never installed a single DIN HU in my Z28 because of that. I did go with an Alpine 1.5 DIN HU for a while, but there are just so many features a modern double DIN radio has over the late '90's early '00's technology that I eventually had no choice but to update to a modern radio when GA enacted their "no hand held device law while driving" last year. I went with a Pioneer double DIN and I now have hands free calling, back-up camera, and ton of other modern features old school HU's just don't have that we actually NEED these days.

Knowing and agreeing with you on most aftermarket bezels, check out my thread on when I installed my double DIN HU and see if you think modernizing your system is a visually pleasing option as well:

If you were picky, you wouldnt have that gap at the top lol. I installed car audio professionally for over a decade in my earlier years, and that gap would drive me nuts! You can get a trim ring for the radio that sits behind the radio opening.

I have since corrected the fitment, I knew I had to fix it after the initial install.
