Default 2001 Chevy Camaro SS

Hello everyone, I'm a big car fan of all classic muscle cars and about a year ago I purchased a 1979 El Camino with a L98 Corvette engine swap. Since I've had it, I've done a ton of work and I finally won my first trophy after a year with it. I will post some pictures later, and I'm have some small issues with it, but I'm still troubleshooting.

But one of the reasons that I'm writing is: My Son-N-Law, has a 2001 Chevy Camaro SS, and when his father gave it to him, he had aftermarket headlights and taillights. So, the headlights started having problems and he decided to install some OEM headlights. I went through the whole system, and we installed the headlights, but they didn't work. After troubleshooting, I found out that the fuse box was missing terminals and I also found a Black & Red that was cut, So the first thing I did was check power in the terminals that were left in the fuse box, and then I did a continuity check from the Red wire to the headlight sockets and I got continuity, but I didn't get anything from the Black wire. I'm sending pictures of what I found in the fuse box. I've also attached a picture of the fuse box with a fuse taken out so you can see what both terminals look like. (Refer to fuse slot between 10a & 30a) I needed to know if anyone has a wiring diagram that shows where the black wire and the red wire connects in the fuse box or which one is left headlight and which is right headlight. Thanks

Those two fuse slots are supposed to be empty on a Camaro... they hold 15A fuses for the left and right headlight doors on a Firebird.

Ok thanks, so I think that the two wires I found might be positive and negative for the lights. One was red and the other black, I did continuity checks but no power and ground. I will do some more checking and keep you posted. Thanks

A couple of points which might help in your investigations...
- There is no fuse for the headlights. They are protected by a fusible link in the wiring.
- There are no red and black wires in the factory headlight wiring, at least not under the hood. The headlight switch is fed by a red wire which is connected to the black wire and black fusible link via the large firewall connector under the dash. From the headlight switch there is also a red wire which goes to the DRL module behind the radio. There is an internal fuse in the headlight switch but it almost never causes a problem. You can check continuity between pins G and J on the switch (where the two red wires connect) or just confirm that you have power at pin G which is the output to the DRL module... either way will confirm if the internal fuse is good.

Otherwise, the underhood wiring is tan for the low beams and light green for the high beams. The only black wires underhood related to the headlights are the grounds which go from the bulbs to one of the two grounds on each side of the top of the radiator support. Any red and black wires under the hood which aren't bundled in a harness are somebody's aftermarket installations.

Thank so much, I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner, but my daughter just had our 3rd grandchild and I've been very busy helping around the house. But soon as I can, I will get back on the troubleshooting. Thanks again

Good morning, WhiteBird00, I just wanted to thank you personally for the information on my son-n-law's 2001 Camaro, it was the "Headlight Switch" he ordered it and we tested and installed it, and everything worked fine. And then we couldn't get the Daytime Running Lights to work, but that was an easy fix; we just cleaned the sensor, and everything worked just fine. Thanks again.

A quick NOTE on Under-hood Bussed Electrical Centers (UBEC)...
The Proper Name for the Fuse Panel in the Engine Compartment.

As already mentioned (Thank you @WhiteBird00 )...
Some of the Locations (Empty Slots or Holes) for Mini-Fuses, Maxi-Fuses, and Metri-Pack 280 Spec-Relays are simply Storage Locations
That hold replacement Components, which can be used after an Electrical-Fault.

However, this is not the case with all Unused Locations of Empty Slots or Holes.
These UBEC Assemblies are NOT Specific to 4TH-Gen F-Body Vehicles.
GM often designs Parts, Components, and Assemblies so that they can be used in many, many different GM Vehicles.

These Unused Locations are referred to as "UnPopulated".
These unpopulated locations will be "Populated" in different Vehicles with different Features, and/ or Vehicles that simply have a greater number of Circuits being used.

Something that is great for those of you who DIY Electrical work...
We can use those unpopulated locations to add aftermarket accessories, factory accessories, or anything else that we wish.
It is very common to populate the unpopulated locations during a Swap to or from another vehicle.

The Terminals, TPA Locks (The Locks that retain the Terminals; called Terminal Position Assurance Locks), and even Cable Seals if we are using a Sealed Location...
Are all still available for us to use (and customize to our content).

Mouser.com is a great resource for any of you that are into this type of DIY work.
They are ONLY a retailer though...
If any of you are hard-core into this stuff, there are far better suppliers to wholesale this stuff.

BTW, I am now a Specialist in GM Electrical Systems (From the days of the Packard Electrical Division, to the current new Owner Aptiv) and a Former GM Engineer...
That spent time with Delphi Electronics (Subsidiary of GM and successor to the Packard Electrical Division) and many other Divisions and Subsidiaries of GM.

Feel free to ask me questions in the Future in your own Threads!

Enjoy!!!

Actually, the GM service manual for the 4th generation f-bodies calls the under hood fuse boxes "junction box 1" and "junction box 2", but that's just semantics as long as everyone understands what is being referred to.

Indeed, that is one of the many outdated terms used.

UBEC would be the most up to date for most Auto Manufacturers.
