Default Best Amp and such...

So i'm looking to put JL 10w6v2 in a Stealthbox and I was wondering what the best amp would be? or at least for some recommendations.

Also I was wondering where the best place to mount the amp is?

TIA

There are many reputable brands that make very good stuff. What price range were you looking at?

Kinda trying to keep it low, but I don't want to waste a good sub with a shitty amp. Looking to find one around 2-300 and about 500w 1 channel ish

Circuit City has a killer deal on an alpine mrd-301 sub amp. I ordered mine online for $170. Normally a $300 amp. Its 375x1 into 2 ohms.. im going to use it to push two infinity 10s.

That's a nice deal. I'm wondering if that would work with the sub I want. I looked up the specs on the sub and found this:

Available Configurations: Dual 4 ohm only

I'm new to the car stereo stuff and not sure how that will affect what I want to do.

you can use that amp you can run the sub you will just have to follow the directions on the amp on how to wire it. I did it on my friends sub (dif sub but still a dual 4 ohm) with the same amp.

Would it be easier just to find one set up for 4 ohms already?

if its a dual 4ohm voicecoil you would want an amp that is 2ohm stable. you wouldnt really want to run an amp at 8ohms, although it shouldnt hurt anything to do so other than reduce the output quite a bit.

i dont have alot of experience with different brands of amps, but i have memphis mc series amps and they are quite nice.

if you're going to spend $200 on an amp, buy a used amp. i have a 1400 watt jbl amp that i paid $215 for. it hits HARD.

dual 4 ohms means you can wire it down to 2 ohms, which is what my jbl amp does at 1400 watts.

you're probably thinking, "my sub can't handle that much power," but that doesn't really matter. i have 40k mile tires, but they've got about that on them now and they look great. sub's ratings are just a figure, not necessarily precise at all. just be smart about it. you'll set the gain on the amp accordingly to how much power your sub can handle, and you'll hear the sub distort when the gain gets too hefty.

a low wattage amp set at high gains is much more dangerous than a very high wattage amp with lower gains. you avoid clipping this way, and usually are supplying your sub with plenty of power to meet your needs. and you can always upgrade to two subs later on and push the gain higher.

Phoenix Gold is my choice, but may be out of your price range. I havent had one problem with my two phoenix gold amps, and I've had them for over two years, and I'm still working them pretty hard.

I was thinking that was too low, for a 400w sub, but that is a possibility. I've also been told that a used JL 500/1 would be good to get also.
