I don't know if this is a repost but her you go. If you are interested in connecting your iPod to your stereo and still able to use steering wheel controls this is for you. iPod connector they have them for just about any car. I am tracing a lead on a cheaper one that is $142.00. I will let you know if it pans out.

A little pricy but I would like to see what the cable/kit actually consist of. Do you have a pic you can attach and share?

This is all I have. I am going to buy this one and will post up how well it works, ease of hooking up and quality. It is mail order so it may be a while before I have it and hooked up.

Geez. $200+ for the ipod and $140 for the connector. For that you'd be better off building a carpc.

i dont know if you guys are familiar with Neo products, but they are junk. Remember the neo changers?? they work for some cars, and others they do not.

i would just get an alpine, with the 420i ipod interface

I've never heard of a NeoChanger not working in a car that meets their specifications. They will only work in cars that are capable of supporting a factory changer. For example, prior to mid-99 models, you couldn't run a changer in an f-body with a CD head unit - only the cassette head unit supported the changer. Since a factory changer wouldn't work in those models, the NeoChanger wouldn't either.

That's what this thread has been about. Check out mp3yourcar.com as indicated above. It is an expensive adapter but it will connect your ipod with the factory Monsoon radio using the CD changer port on the back. There is also the PEI ipod2car interface but it's just as expensive. You can get more information about it at PEI's site. Both will charge the ipod battery and allow control using the Monsoon head unit buttons or the steering wheel controls.

yeah i did a little research and found out more on the setups. i wasnt sure if these worked on our factory monsoon's since some of the people posting had aftermarket hu's. thats awesome that is charges the ipod as well, i may really consider dishing out the cash on these things. i hardly ever use my ipod b/c of the poor fm modulator quality and battery issue. this would be a sweet setup. i wish someone could find a way to make it from avalible cables and parts, but i searched with no luck.

also, do all of the monsoon HU's have the CD changer port in the rear? mine doesnt have a button to switch over to a CD changer, or AUX source, so just wondering if they all came equipped the same regaurdless if you had a factory changer or not.

All the Monsoon systems had the CD changer port but not all would work. Up until the middle of the 99 model year only the cassette head units were capable of controlling an external device such as the changer. After mid-99, both the cassette and CD head units were capable of using the changer. The button to activate the changer is labeled differently on different models - some say "AUX", some say "CD/AUX" and others say "CD/PLAY". If you have a CD head unit then whatever button you press to switch to the built-in CD player will switch to the changer (or other external device) when you press it a second time.

YES I remember those peices of crap. I use to try and talk people out of em. Well they would buy it and we would install it. A month (sometimes less) later we would be putting in a good changer. Great Idea...bad build quality

the funny about neo's, atleast what I experienced, was that they would work for some cars, and others they would not. Meaning I would install them in a jeep, and not work, but then I would install the same one in a VW and it would work. Then sometimes it would work in a jeep, and not a VW. I must have installed about 30 of them, and they rarely work, and if they do, not for long.

NEO is made by SSI, a company taht started out of a garage, so quality control is not their strong point

hahah yeah those things where a nightmare.

I remember one customer we had kept having it installed...then he would change his mind or it would break and we would uninstall it. We repeated that about 6-7 times before he finally got a pioneer changer.

I have heard that the quality was not all it could be and that many of them fail in short order. However, the problems with them working in some cars and not others was probably related to the capabilities of different head units. For example, you could install one in an early-99 Camaro and have it not work because it had an early CD head unit. You could then install the same one in a late-99 or newer Camaro (or a 99 with casette) and it would work. This might seem random (works in one Camaro but not the other) but is actually caused by the different radio models. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jeeps had similar differences between radio models in otherwise identical vehicles.

I am running my ipod in my car using the aux holes. I have a sony cdx-f5710 with the aux plugs in the back. I bought a cable at radio shack for $7, and ran the wire through the center consol. The wire goes into where the head phones would. My ipod just sits in my cup holder. Works great and is a pretty clean install.
