Default Distorsation

I have a 2000 Elcipse and it has the stock Infindity system. There are 2 tweeters in the windows 4 side speakers and there is one speaker in the middle on my dash...When I listen to the radio or CDs, there is a fuzzy and crackling sound and its only that one speaker...what could it be? Could it be distoration or do I may need a possible speaker?

But can I buy just the one speaker without replacing the whole system?

You shoud. You will need to find out what size it is. You might have to buy a set (2 speakers), cause they are usually sold in pairs. But that means you will have a back up later.

Dealership will charge you an arm and a leg for the speaker and to put it in. Go to a car audio shop and have them do it. Unless you have some tools and some electronics knowledge. Then tackle the job yourself and save some money.

What year is it?

My uncle had an old Volvo with a crackling speaker that he thought was blown. I pulled the door panel off and found that the insulation on the wire had worn through and the wire was shorting out against the sheet metal. Put some electrical tape around the problem area and fixed the problem. May want to check for something like this before you go replacing parts.

ummmm, if it were shorting out, I would hope it would blow the overcurrent device (breaker/fuse).

breakers/fuses only trip or burn up if the short lasts long enough to overload the circuit. if the wire was moving due to the pressure of the speaker in operation, or of the vehicle in motion, it may only touch metal for a fraction of a second at a time, which is not long enough to overload it.

I've never seen a speaker wire with a fuse on it.

can't tell if that's a joke or not.....no smileys....

if not a joke, he's talking about the fuse on the amp, not the speaker wire. if it shorted out long enough, it would (should) either burn out the fuse in the amp, or trip the amp's protection circuit.

That I agree with....but he was referring to my post about the speaker wire shorting out against the sheet metal. But whatever, it's all goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!
