Default Do It Yourselfers Inside...

I have a question on installing 6.5 components in front doors.
1. Do the speakers just bolt right in
2. Did you drill in the door panel for the tweets
3. Where did you run the speaker wire through ..(the rubber gromet in the door with the factory wires
4. I bought the subthump amprack for the trunk ... can i mount the xovers for the components in the back on the amprack

I installed the stereo in my yukon but through it in. Install was not as clean as i want this one to be. I am one of those people that know how and can do it but i have to ask a million questions to make sure i know. thanks in advance mario

1. depends on your speaker
2. I mounted mine on the triangle panel on the a-pillar in a fiberglass pod, someone makes these themselves and sells them, I can't recall who
3. Thru the grommet
4. No idea on the subthump rack I don't know what it looks like. You can mount them anywhere. I put mine under the dash. This way you are only running a wire to each xover rather than a pair of wires.

Hell. I want to Know too!!! That would save me Fab time and a Vapor induced Head Ache.

If you find out Brian PM me again with the info. I will have to put that in the FAQ.

1.) The Woofer/Mid usually will. It does depend on the Component set though.

2.) I like the Sail panel idea above if you have Power Mirrors. If not, I have heard of People putting them in the Vents (I don't like it because it is not directed properly and will be muffled, + the vents are not as useful), Up on the Dash with double sided Sticky tape/Hot Glue. You can Mount them on the Doors near the Speaker by Drilling a Small enought hole to run the Speaker wire though and then just use a Screw to hold the Tweeter Mount to the Door.

You have a couple of options just need to decide if you want to put hole in your car or not.

3.) Yup. I get a coat hanger and cut it down. Tape speaker wire to it and you can fish it through, or you can pull it out easily and run the Wire thought the Gromet and then into the Door and under the Dash. (Dash the Harder Side by far).

Also you can put the Cross-over under the Dash or In the Door. Under the Dash require 2 sets of wires in each door VS in the door requires only 1 set to be run inside BUT you would need to keep them Dry and out of the Way.

I like under the Dash and running the extra Wires.

4.) Yes, BUT you will then need the Extra wire to make the Run. This is a nice idea if you want to Show off the Cross-overs, but make it a little more expensive install because now you have basically 2 18' runs per side.

I threw ideas at you. Pick 1 and I'll help you with it if you want help.

The guy I bought the tweeter mounts from is on LS1.com as SSChevy. I have his AOL name on my buddy list. I'll check when I get home.

1. yeah right, very very rarely will you be able to line those bolts up. i've known of a total of about 5 component sets that actually line up correctly. only 1-2 of them are good sets, too. usually people just make a baffle out of mdf wood and screw the speakers into that. that's a much safer idea anyway, especially if there is any power behind the speaker. this will allow for a much more powerful sound, especially in the midbass area. don't forget to deaden behind your door panels as well.

2. i put my tweets in the door panel, and i drilled through the carpet. if i ever remove the tweets, the carpet covers up the small holes used to currently hold the tweets.

3. run the wires along the side of the car...take out all of the plastic panels to better access the areas where you can lay wires down.

4. yes, mount them anywhere you want to. under the kick panel is the stealthiest/easiest place to put them, however.

when you take out your stock plastic baffle (the thing the stock speaker is bolted onto), you'll trace out that shape (and use the same holes) on your mdf, or plywood, or whatever you use. you should have no problems getting the door panel back on. if you do, you can always take it off and use 1/4 instead. and of course you'll have to cut a hole in the middle of the new baffle to accomodate the new speaker.

Does using 3/8" MDF for the door baffles give enough room for the woofer to move and not come in contact with the door panel/grill?

As for components that fit, I know alpine type R components will fit the stock baffle holes exactly.
